.With the schedule released, the 2025-26 NHL season will be a pivotal one for the rebuilding Pittsburgh Penguins. With the organization in transition, there are a number of important dates to track. These dates represent commemorations, global series, and potential goodbyes. Nearing the end of the Sidney Crosby<\/a> era, emotions will run high in a season with low expectations.<\/p>\n

October 7th, <\/sup>2025 \u2013 Season Opener Versus the New York Rangers<\/a><\/h3>\n

The season opener against the New York Rangers will be an emotional one. New Penguins head coach<\/a> Dan Muse will lead Pittsburgh in a battle against the team\u2019s former head coach, Mike Sullivan<\/a>. After nearly a decade with the Penguins, Sullivan looks to help the Rangers<\/a> rebound from a disappointing season back into championship contenders.<\/p>\n

Storyline(s) to watch: Mike Sullivan\u2019s return to Pittsburgh.<\/p>\n

October 27th,<\/sup> 2025\u2013 Halloween Dress-up Night Versus the St. Louis Blues<\/a><\/h3>\n

As is the Penguins’ tradition, the last home game before Halloween is a celebration of the holiday. Expect tons of fun costumes, including a classic Dan Potash getup in a game against St. Louis.<\/p>\n

November 14th<\/sup> and 16th<\/sup> 2025\u2013 NHL Global Series<\/a> vs the Nashville Predators<\/a><\/h3>\n

The Pittsburgh Penguins and Nashville Predators are scheduled for Sweden in the second month of the regular season. The teams will meet in Stockholm to compete at the Avicii arena in games that\u2019ll be sure to have a considerable amount of fan and executive attention. As both teams are in a bit of a retool, expect professional scouts to be plentiful in this contest.<\/p>\n

Storyline(s) to watch: The play of Swedish representatives (Erik Karlsson<\/a>, Rickard Rakell<\/a>, Filip Forsberg<\/a>, Filip Hallander<\/a>, David Edstrom).<\/p>\n

November 26th<\/sup> \u2013 Thanksgiving Eve Against the Buffalo Sabres<\/a><\/h3>\n

Like with Halloween, the Penguins love throwing a Thanksgiving-themed game. Tune in or attend the Thanksgiving Eve contest for hockey against a young Buffalo Sabres team. The Buffalo Sabres are facing a 15th<\/sup> straight season without playoff qualification. Nearly two months into the season, this game is a perfectly timed gut check for an inexperienced team that tends to begin falling apart midway through the season after a strong start.<\/p>\n

Storylines to watch: Thanksgiving broadcast and the performance of the Buffalo Sabres in a critical year.<\/p>\n

April 4th<\/sup> and 5th,<\/sup> 2026 \u2013 An Easter Homestand Against the Cup Champion Florida Panthers<\/a><\/h3>\n

Closing in on the end of the season, the Penguins drew an unfortunate straw, ending up as a bit of a gut check for the Florida Panthers. The Panthers have dominated the NHL over the past few years. Following a Cup Finals loss in 2023, the Panthers have won back-to-back Cups in 2024 and 2025. They’ve even retained most of their impact players over the years.<\/a> This pair of Easter games will act as a tune-up for the Panthers, a team that tends to conserve their energy with slow play until just a few weeks before the playoffs. On the flip side, the Penguins are likely to have an even worse roster during these post-trade deadline games. With impact players expected to be traded by this point, this will be a tough pair of games for the remaining Penguins to play.<\/p>\n

Storyline(s) to watch: The state of the Penguins and their place in the standings plus the state of the cup champion Panthers weeks out from a second-straight championship defence.<\/p>\n

April 12th,<\/sup> 2026 \u2013 a Russian Last Dance Versus the Washington Capitals<\/a><\/h3>\n

April 12th,<\/sup> 2026, holds the potential of being a highly emotional night for two different NHL fan bases. In addition to Sidney Crosby, Alexander Ovechkin and Evgeni Malkin<\/a> were two of the best forwards in the world for over a decade in their prime. The pair famously clashed in their youth, however, as the years have gone by their animosity has evolved into a friendship. Having accomplished so much in the league, Ovechkin and Malkin\u2019s play have begun to wind down. Ovechkin has obtained the NHL scoring record, while Malkin holds three Stanley Cup rings. Both are going into the last year of their current NHL contracts, with various rumours that either\/both of them could hang their skates up after the season is over. As such, this final scheduled contest between the Penguins and Capitals could be a historic game, marking the culmination of a long-standing legacy.<\/p>\n

Storylines to watch: Perhaps the last time superstars Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Alex Ovechkin<\/a> compete against each other before the former two potentially retire.<\/p>\n

October 2025 through April 2026 \u2013 Bobblehead Nights!<\/h3>\n

The Pittsburgh Penguins have yet to release their schedule for this season\u2019s bobblehead nights. The schedule is expected in September. These special home games are centred around commemorating the Penguins, their players, and their five Stanley Cups. Each of these nights have a theme centred around the a player on one of these Cup teams. Bobbleheads are made of that player to be given to fans attending the game. Quantities are limited and announced ahead of time.<\/p>\n
