The contract carries a $1.7 million cap hit for the next four seasons for the Colorado Avalanche. Kelly played in 80 games for the Avalanche this year, helping himself to 8 goals and 11 assists for 19 points. His physical presence on the fourth line is more what the Avalanche are after. They need someone like Kelly to have a bruising impact in a series, and that’s what they’re hoping for.

Kelly isn’t the most offensive player, but he’s a good teammate. Kelly is someone who doesn’t mind getting dirty in the corners and fighting for his teammates. He’s responsible enough defensively to be trusted by Jared Bednar in his zone and can change games with his hitting. He’s the kind of player the Avalanche have lacked recently, so getting him extended helps. That physical presence in the bottom six is something every team is after.

Parker Kelly re-signs with Avs, four years x $1.7M AAV

— Pierre LeBrun (@PierreVLeBrun) July 1, 2025

Colorado Avalanche Re-Sign Parker Kelly

Kelly was cast out of Ottawa a few seasons ago because he wasn’t what they were looking for. One year into his two-year deal with the Avalanche, he’s already got five more years of job security. The Avalanche forward knows he’ll be hanging around with one of the contenders in the West. He’ll not get the limelight in Denver, but he’ll hope to contribute to a successful season. He won’t score a lot, but he’ll make himself known.

Why Colorado Benefit

That physical presence hasn’t been there for Colorado. After trading Mikko Rantanen, the Avs needed someone who could lay the body. Captain Gabriel Landeskog can do it, but that long-term injury raises issues. Kelly’s relatively healthy and can make himself known in games legally. Colorado needs more players like that, and filling the bottom six with them helps. It is a good fit for both player and team.

Main Photo: Ron Chenoy-Imagn Images

The Colorado Avalanche have extended forward Parker Kelly.
