We take a look at rumours involving the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/stars\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dallas Stars<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/canadiens\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Montreal Canadiens<\/a>, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/red-wings\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Detroit Red Wings.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>All NHL rumours are taken from the original source and are subject to change.<\/em><\/p>\n<h1>NHL Rumours<\/h1>\n<h2>Dallas Stars<\/h2>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/z\/zuccama01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mats Zuccarello<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Rumour: Stars NHL.com beat writer Mike Heika <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/stars\/news\/mats-zuccarello-happy-with-dallas-stars-but-new-contract-could-be-complicated\/c-307314624?fbclid=IwAR3H2BXxUekeRieSSXHaF_HwWIF86H3praew3Rr1hptdMltW5DmsoN3b76E\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reports that the team<\/a> would love to give <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/z\/zuccama01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mats Zuccarello<\/a> <\/strong>a new contract, but they must have the numbers work. Signing an extension with the Norwegian winger may be complex.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Analysis:<\/em> Head coach<strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/montgji01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jim Montgomery<\/a> <\/strong>has already lobbied with general manager <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/n\/nillji01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jim Nill<\/a> <\/strong>to have Zuccarello back. Many of his new Dallas teammates said that \u201che fits like a glove\u201d on the team. The 31-year-old was key in the Stars playoff run<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2019\/02\/23\/mats-zuccarello-traded\/\" target=\"_self\"> after coming from<\/a> the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/rangers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New York Rangers<\/a> at the trade deadline.<\/p>\n<p>He was very helpful in adding secondary scoring for Dallas and they\u2019ll likely find a way to get him back.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/spezzja01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jason Spezza<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Rumour: Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic reports that <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/spezzja01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jason Spezza<\/a> <\/strong>will likely not be back with the Stars. He\u2019s an unrestricted free agent on July 1. The 35-year-old also said that he would be open to a return to the Ottawa Senators.<\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Jason Spezza has made one key decision. &#8220;I definitely want to keep playing,&#39;&#39; Spezza said. It won&#39;t be in Dallas as the veteran forward is headed to the UFA market for the first time in his career. He only scored eight goals and had 11 assists for 19 points in 76 games. Spezza did score three goals in the post-season, but the writing seems to be on the wall.<\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/impending-free-agent-centre-jason-spezza-is-open-to-returning-to-the-ottawa-senators-1.1306651\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">1,065 career games over 16 seasons<\/a> with the Sens and Stars, Spezza has tallied 332 goals and 583 assists.<\/p>\n<h2>Montreal Canadiens<\/h2>\n<p><em>Rumour: TVA Sports speculated that the Habs could be in the market for some<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2018\/11\/29\/montreal-canadiens-defence-targets-2\/\" target=\"_self\"> lefthanded defencemen.<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tvasports.ca\/2019\/05\/11\/quatre-defenseurs-gauchers-qui-pourraient-interesser-le-ch?fbclid=IwAR3HsKFSdYXSyufCCHPxxHW9i0Uj4dFv1lvNgkipo3HeJ6GUiOF-g_e37pM\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Article is in French<\/a>.) Some of the names include <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/g\/gardija01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Jake Gardiner<\/strong><\/a><strong>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/martial01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Alec Martinez<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/g\/gostish01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Shayne Gostisbehere<\/a> <\/strong>and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/e\/edleral01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Alexander Edler<\/a><\/strong>. Gardiner and Edler are free agents while Martinez and Gostisbehere would need to be acquired via trade.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Analysis:<\/em> Montreal\u2019s defence was a weak spot and adding one of these names would help. Finding a lefthanded shot would allow<strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/metevi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Victor Mete<\/a><\/strong> to develop on the second pair. The new acquisition would likely be on the top pairing with<strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/w\/webersh01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Shea Weber<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>Detroit Red Wings<\/h2>\n<p><em>Rumour: Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.detroitnews.com\/story\/sports\/nhl\/red-wings\/2019\/05\/14\/could-anthony-mantha-andreas-athanasiou-fetch-detroit-red-wings-defenseman\/3666153002\/?fbclid=IwAR1ypKrhF8DEg9CLgJiaTTKpKuGgGFtxqUKlR5SvxAvS4hNkGdPPZGzSSFI\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">thinks the Red Wings could trade wingers<\/a> <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/manthan01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Anthony Mantha<\/a><\/strong> or<strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/a\/athanan01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Andreas Athanasiou<\/a><\/strong> for a defenceman. New general manager <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/y\/yzermst01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Steve Yzerman<\/a><\/strong> has a deep talent pool of young forward prospects and he could get an NHL-ready defender to help speed up a rebuild.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Analysis:<\/em> Mantha <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mlive.com\/redwings\/2019\/05\/red-wings-anthony-mantha-continues-roll-at-world-championship.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">has five goals in four games at<\/a> the IIHF World Championships. Yzerman could trade while the value is still high and get a key piece. The former <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/lightning\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tampa Bay Lightning<\/a> general manager built one of the better defences in the league with players like <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/hedmavi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Victor Hedman<\/a><\/strong> and<strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/mcdonry01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ryan McDonagh<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Defence was a weak point for Detroit with aging veterans like <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=greenmi03,greenmi02&amp;search=Mike+Green&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mike Green<\/a><\/strong> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/d\/daleytr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Trevor Daley<\/a> and inexperienced players like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/hronefi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Filip Hronek<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/cholode01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dennis Cholowski<\/a>.
