Kane returned for the Stanley Cup Playoffs, helping the Oilers return to the Stanley Cup Final, where they were defeated once again.

Kane and the Canucks

After making the playoffs in 2024, the Canucks missed the playoffs last season. The acquisition of Kane seems to be an attempt to boost the offence for next season. The Canucks lost offence when they traded J.T. Miller last season.

Edmonton Might be the Winners in this Trade

It is no secret the Oilers are dealing with the salary cap right now. Their issues with the cap caused them to lose Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg last August to offer sheets.

The Oilers did shop Kane in the regular season to clear his $5.125 million contract from their cap. While they were unsuccessful then, they are now. The Canucks are taking on the full contract. This might make the Oilers the winner of this trade. They have already re-signed Trent Frederic, but there are other players who will be due for contracts soon. Defenceman Evan Bouchard and star Connor McDavid are the biggest names approaching contract renewal.

This additional $5.125 million will come in handy for the Oilers as they look to build a team that can return to the Stanley Cup Final for a third-straight season.

Main Photo: Perry Nelson- Imagn Images

The Vancouver Canucks have completed a trade with the Edmonton Oilers for a forward with Stanley Cup Final experience.
