He has put up\u00a024\u00a0goals and 53\u00a0assists for 77\u00a0career points in 239\u00a0career games. He was originally drafted in the 3rd round, 74th\u00a0overall of the\u00a02012\u00a0NHL draft by the Stars.<\/p>\n<p>Last season he scored 11 goals and 21 assists for 32 points. He also added 33 minutes in penalties. His possession numbers were 45 percent Corsi\u00a0and a relative Corsi of -5.9.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/stars\/news\/dallas-stars-sign-defenseman-esa-lindell-to-six-year-contract-extension\/c-307421984\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">&#8220;Esa is a consummate professional who has proven himself dependable in every situation and is just an absolute workhorse,&#8221; said Nill. &#8220;When you combine his strength, conditioning, hockey IQ and skill, he has become an integral part of this team. Along with\u00a0John Klingberg\u00a0and\u00a0Miro Heiskanen, the three make up the foundation of a blueline that will not only be a strength for our club, but one that will be as good as any in the NHL for the foreseeable future.&#8221;<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>What This Means for the Future<\/h2>\n<p>As <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/n\/nillji01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jim Nill<\/a><\/strong> stated, Lindell, along with\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/heiskmi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Miro Heiskanen<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/k\/klingjo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">John Klingberg<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0are the important pieces of the defence moving forward. With what used to be a weakness for the team is now an area that has become solidified by the youth. Locking up Lindell is important for the roster who surprised many by beating the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/predators\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nashville Predators<\/a> in the first round, and taking the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/blues\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">St. Louis Blues<\/a> to Game 7 in the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
