The Ottawa Senators have signed forward Lars Eller<\/a> to a one-year contract worth $1.25 million. The 36-year old is joining his sixth NHL team after splitting last year with two Eastern Conference teams.<\/p>\n

Eller was a first-round pick of the St. Louis Blues<\/a> in 2007. After scoring two goals in seven games with the Blues, Eller was the centerpiece of a trade with the Montreal Canadiens<\/a> in exchange for goaltender Jaroslav Halak<\/a>. In addition to the Blues and Habs, Eller has also played for the Washington Capitals<\/a>, Pittsburgh Penguins<\/a>, and Colorado Avalanche<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Stanley Cup Hero<\/h3>\n

Eller has spent the majority of his career with the Capitals. His career-best season came in 2017-18, when he scored 18 goals. Furthermore, Eller would score the Cup-winning goal as the Capitals won their first Stanley Cup<\/a> in franchise history.<\/p>\n

Experienced Forward<\/h3>\n

Eller has consistently been on teams competing in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. After winning the Stanley Cup in Washington, Eller joined the Avalanche for their Cup-defence season in 2022-23. After a brief stint in Pittsburgh, Eller was re-acquired by the Capitals for the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs. However, 2018 remains the only season in which Eller reached the Stanley Cup Final.<\/p>\n

Eller joins his sixth team looking to continue a successful NHL career. In 1,116 NHL games, Eller has scored 188 goals and recorded 236 assists for a total of 424 points.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, Eller will enter the 2025-26 season on a milestone watch. Eller is only 12 goals away from reaching 200 for his career. Is this possible for the 36-year old? Well, in his 16-year career, Eller has only had six seasons with 12 or less goals. His 82-game average stands at 14 goals. As a result, it seems the odds of him reaching his 200th goal appear to be good, providing Eller remain healthy and in the lineup for his new team.<\/p>\n
