This was the forward\u2019s first season with Vancouver, having previously played for the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/predators\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nashville Predators<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/avalanche\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Colorado Avalanche<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/ducks\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Anaheim Ducks<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Many around the NHL heard of Sherwood\u2019s <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/thehockeynews.com\/nhl\/vancouver-canucks\/breaking-records-canucks-kiefer-sherwood-smashes-nhl-season-hit-record-versus-new-york\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">record-breaking<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> hit count. However, Sherwood also surpassed his career highs in goals, assists, points, and games played this season. So, let\u2019s break down each of Sherwood\u2019s stats from 2024\u201325 and predict whether he\u2019ll finish next season with over or under.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Studying Sherwood\u2019s Deployment\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Average time-on-ice in 2024\u201325: <\/span><b>14:53<\/b><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Power play time in 2024\u201325: <\/span><b>64:25<\/b><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Penalty kill time in 2024\u201325: <\/span><b>113:42<\/b><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Will Sherwood play over\/under 14:53 per game?: <\/span><b>Yes<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Will Sherwood have over\/under 64:25 on the power play?: <\/span><b>No<\/b><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Will Sherwood have over\/under 113:42 on the penalty kill?: <\/span><b>Yes<\/b><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One of Sherwood\u2019s stats from this season that may go unnoticed is his TOI. In the 78 games he played in, Sherwood played 1161:21, which averages out to a career-high 14:53 per game. While the Canucks\u2019 roster has seen lots of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2025\/02\/03\/the-vancouver-canucks-friday-night-shuffle\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">movement<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> this season, Sherwood\u2019s total minutes are still the tenth-highest of all skaters. He also has the eighth-highest power play TOI of skaters still on the team by the end of the season with 64:25. In terms of the penalty kill, he had the third-highest minutes played of all forwards. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All three of Sherwood\u2019s deployment stats could rise next season, as the Canucks\u2019 power play and penalty kill could both be losing key pieces. Many have predicted that longtime Canuck <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/boesebr01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Brock Boeser<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> will be <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2025\/04\/11\/nhl-rumours-future-of-vancouver-canucks-forward-murky\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">testing free agency<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> come July 1. As well, Vancouver has yet to sign <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/suterpi01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pius Suter<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2025\/04\/04\/pius-suter-vancouver-canucks-next-contract\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">new contract<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. While free-agency signings will impact the team\u2019s TOI breakdown, Sherwood\u2019s dependability on all sides of the ice makes him a strong candidate for a boost in minutes. If both players depart in the off-season, Sherwood\u2019s TOI stats could reach another career-high.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sherwood\u2019s Goal-Scoring Stats<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Goals scored in 2024\u201325: <\/span><b>19<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Assists scored in 2024\u201325: <\/span><b>21<\/b><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Will Sherwood score over\/under 19 goals?: <\/span><b>Over<\/b><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Will Sherwood score over\/under 21 assists?: <\/span><b>Over<\/b><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sherwood was only a hair away from having his first career 20-goal season in 2024\u201325. His previous career high had been ten, which he tallied in 68 games with Nashville in 2023\u201324. In the past three seasons, Sherwood\u2019s offensive stats have begun to rise. Sherwood\u2019s playing time stats also indicate that he could hit the 20-goal mark in 2025\u201326. Despite not scoring a single power play goal this season, Sherwood still got over an hour on the man-advantage. He also spent some time on <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/p\/petteel01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Elias Pettersson<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019s wing. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Even with a healthy roster, Sherwood was still given some offensive matchups and minutes this season. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One spot that Sherwood could contest for coming into 2025\u201326 is on <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/chytifi01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Filip Chytil<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019s wing. The speed centre expects to be healthy come the start of the new season. While Vancouver\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2025\/04\/24\/vancouver-canucks-player-report-cards-forwards\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">top-six<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is expected to consist of Pettersson, Chytil, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2025\/04\/19\/goals-that-canucks-jake-debrusk-can-build-on-in-2025-26\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">goal-scorer<\/span><\/a> <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/d\/debruja01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jake DeBrusk<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2025\/04\/25\/positives-and-negatives-in-nils-hoglanders-2024-25-season\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">snakebitten<\/span><\/a> <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/hoglani01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nils H\u00f6glander<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/g\/garlaco01.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Conor Garland<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and a free agent signing or two, Sherwood could utilize his strong forecheck to wrangle a role as a finisher on one of these two lines.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Can Sherwood Continue to Smash NHL Hitting Stats?<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hits made in 2024\u201325: <\/span><b>460<\/b><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Will Sherwood make over\/under 460 hits?: <\/span><b>Under<\/b><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As great as it would be to see Sherwood smash another NHL hit record, physically speaking, it\u2019s likely too much for him to bear. Crossing stats from the first and last ten games of the season, it\u2019s clear the hit total took a toll on Sherwood. In the first ten games, Sherwood had 67 hits, making this an average of 6.7 hits per game. In the final ten games, he had 58, nothing to snooze at, but still something to keep in mind. Drawing from previous seasons\u2019 stats, Sherwood had 234 hits in 2023\u201324. While he did play ten less games that season, this still averages out to 3.44 per game, nearly 2.5 less than his average from 2024\u201325.
