He just wrapped up an incredible season with Saginaw, putting up 107 points in 61 games. That included 33 goals and 74 assists—elite numbers for any player, let alone a defenceman. He’s widely known for his skating, creativity, and poise with the puck. Those skills were on full display during the OHL season and again at the 2024 World Junior Championship, where he represented Team Canada. His ability to read the game and create offence from the back end makes him a perfect fit for the modern NHL.

watch this shift from zayne parekh, just pure and utter dominance. #flames pic.twitter.com/ucKPAhpaVo

— zeke (@AverageFan_Z) March 14, 2025

What This Move Means for Calgary

Since this recall happened after the NHL trade deadline, Parekh is not eligible for the AHL playoffs unless he signs an amateur tryout. If Parekh joins the Flames, it would signal that the team wants to test him at the highest level right away. Perhaps the Flames want to give him a taste of NHL action before next season. Further, they may believe he can help them with their final playoff push. If he reports to the Wranglers on an amateur tryout, he’ll benefit from professional minutes in a lower-pressure environment. Either path offers value, and whichever route Calgary chooses, it’s clear they’re ready to start developing one of their most exciting young defencemen. With his skill and upside, he could be a major part of Calgary’s future blue line.
