Clubs are trying to revamp in order to make a deep run or just to get to the post-season next year. The upcoming draft and free agency period may force teams to cut bait on old stars or take a risk.<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s rumours address the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/rangers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New York Rangers<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/jets\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Winnipeg Jets<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/red-wings\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Detroit Red Wings<\/a>. As always, all <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2019\/05\/04\/nhl-trade-rumours-pavel-datsyuk-edmonton-oilers-pittsburgh-penguins\/\" target=\"_self\">NHL rumours<\/a> are taken from the original source and subject to change.<\/p>\n<h1>NHL Rumours<\/h1>\n<h2>New York Rangers<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/l\/lundqhe01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Henrik Lundqvist<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Rumour: Could the Rangers actually deal long-time goalie Henrik Lundqvist? The netminder revealed to Swedish newspaper Expressen that he\u2019d love to finish his career on Broadway. However, he\u2019s unsure if that will come to pass. Larry Brooks of The New York Post <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2019\/05\/06\/henrik-lundqvist-recommits-to-rangers-after-eye-opening-quote\/?utm_source=twitter_sitebuttons&amp;utm_medium=site%20buttons&amp;utm_campaign=site%20buttons\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">followed up with Lundqvist<\/a>, who said \u201cMy thinking hasn\u2019t changed. The organization and I are on the same page.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Henrik Lundqvist reiterated his desire to finish his career as a member of the Rangers, but told Expressen, a newspaper in Sweden, on Monday he isn&#39;t sure if that will happen <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Jfo44jhEYv\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">https:\/\/t.co\/Jfo44jhEYv<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; NHL.com (@NHLdotcom) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NHLdotcom\/status\/1125436680415141893?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">May 6, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>It seems the interview may have been blown out of proportion. However, there\u2019s always the temptation to unload that $8.5 million a season cap hit. Lundqvist\u2019s contract runs out at the end of the 2020-21 season. Seeing him traded would hurt and remind a lot of people of when <strong>Ed Giacomin<\/strong> was waived and went to the Detroit Red Wings.<\/p>\n<p>That said, hockey is a business and dealing a surefire Hall of Famer may be best for the Rangers rebuild.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/shattke01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kevin Shattenkirk<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Rumour: Speaking of Larry Brooks<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2019\/04\/30\/rangers-land-stud-harvard-defenseman-adam-fox-in-hurricanes-trade\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">, he reported that the Rangers tried to trade<\/a> Kevin Shattenkirk during last season. New York was willing to retain up to half of the New Rochelle, New York native\u2019s salary. However, general manager <strong>Jeff Gorton<\/strong> couldn\u2019t find a suitor.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Analysis: The Rangers already have $23 million tied up in their defence and have to re-sign restricted free agents <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/p\/pionkne01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Neal Pionk<\/a> <\/strong>and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/d\/deangan01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Anthony DeAngelo<\/a><\/strong>. Shattenkirk <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2018\/12\/17\/new-york-rangers-kevin-shattenkirk-hometown-hero-to-broadway-bust\/\" target=\"_self\">had a disastrous second season with his hometown team<\/a> and he carries a $6.65 million per season cap hit until the 2020-21 season. He <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/2018\/12\/12\/new-york-rangers-kevin-shattenkirk-out-2-4-weeks\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">battled injuries<\/a> and struggled.<\/p>\n<p>One of the holdups was that the Rangers were unwilling to take on a bad contract to offset the deal. The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2019\/05\/02\/new-york-rangers-sign-adam-fox-from-harvard\/\" target=\"_self\">arrival of <strong>Adam Fox<\/strong><\/a> could help hasten Shattenkirk\u2019s departure.<\/p>\n<h2>Winnipeg Jets<\/h2>\n<p><em>Rumour: Mike McIntyre of The Winnipeg News said in his Twitter mailbag segment that the club is working on signing restricted free agents<strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/l\/lainepa01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Patrik Laine<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/connoky01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kyle Connor<\/a><\/strong> before any other moves are made. Defenceman <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/t\/troubja01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jacob Trouba<\/a><\/strong> is also a restricted free agent on July 1.<\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">That would be a priority, for sure. They&#39;ll need to try and have some cost certainty heading into July 1, especially as it pertains to their own UFAs. To me, the priority should be 1)Trouba 2)Laine 3)Connor, in that order. Laine is the fourth youngest player to reach 100 goals, which he did 179 career games. Connor is also expected to fetch a pretty penny for his long-term services.<\/p>\n<p>Winnipeg still has to decide on defencemen Trouba and forward\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/t\/tanevbr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brandon Tanev<\/a><\/strong>. Trouba could get another short-term deal while the Jets figure things out.<\/p>\n<h2>Detroit Red Wings<\/h2>\n<p><em>Rumour: Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports that the Red Wings \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mlive.com\/redwings\/2019\/05\/red-wings-have-good-chance-to-sign-finnish-d-man-oliwer-kaski.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">have a good chance<\/a>\u201d of signing Finnish defenceman <strong>Oliwer Kaski<\/strong> at the end of the IIHF World Championships. Kaski led the SM-Liiga in goals and points by a defencemen.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Analysis: Detroit has a mix of older defenders in <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=greenmi03,greenmi02&amp;search=Mike+Green&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mike Green<\/a> <\/strong>and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/d\/daleytr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Trevor Daley<\/a> <\/strong>and youth in<strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/cholode01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dennis Cholowski<\/a> <\/strong>and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/hronefi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Filip Hronek<\/a>.<\/strong> The Red Wings defence struggled last season with injuries and just general poor play. It will require some adjustment for Kaski in moving from the Finnish league to the NHL. However, he earned a chance in North America with his strong play.<\/p>\n<p>Kaski is a late-bloomer and broke out this season with 19 goals and 32 assists for 51 points in 59 games. He also added two goals and two assists in six post-season games with Pelicans.
