The Canes knocked off the Devils in double overtime to advance to the second-round of the 2025 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs. Furthermore, the Carolina Hurricanes have been busy adjusting their roster this calendar year. Today, they announce the re-signing of a recent add. It was quite the blockbuster that saw Mikko Rantanen and Martin Necas, among others, switch allegiances too.

Fast forward to trade deadline day, one of those names were back in the news. Rantanen is off to the Dallas Stars organization. Today, we find out Hall is sticking around in Raleigh, North Carolina. Furthermore, coming back from Dallas, Carolina was able to add young forward Logan Stankoven.

As Taylor Hall signs his extension, the 2018 Hart Memorial Trophy winner as league MVP, doesn’t quite score like he once did. In that memorable 2017-18 he put up 39 goals and 54 assists for 93 points in 76 games. In contrast, this year, combined with Chicago and Carolina, he had 18 goals and 24 assists in 77 games. With Carolina specifically, after a slow start, he’s had just three points through 13 games. However, he ended up with nine goals and nine assists in 31 games with the Canes.

What Are the Hurricanes Plans

In his time in Carolina, he’s shown to still be an effective supporting cast-type forward. He was shooting with Carolina with 62 shots-on-goal and getting a regular shift at 15:27 of average ice time. We all know, as evidenced by his MVP-calibre years, he can be responsible all-over the ice. With the Rantanen trade, it is clear that Carolina is identifying parts for their roster alignment. But general manager Eric Tulsky did want to show his confidence in Hall, hence, today’s contract. Carolina still possesses a very competitive lineup and are now focused on their second-round playoff matchup.

Main Photo Credit: James Guillory-Imagn Images

Keep the good times rolling in Raleigh after ousting the New Jersey Devils last evening.
