The Vancouver Canucks were busy on Friday. After trading forward J.T. Miller<\/a>, the Canucks completed another trade. This time, their trade partner was the Pittsburgh Penguins.<\/span><\/p>\n

Canucks, Penguins Agree to Trade<\/span><\/h2>\n

Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that the club has acquired defenceman Marcus Pettersson<\/a> and forward Drew O’Connor<\/a> from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for forward Danton Heinen<\/a>, defenceman Vincent Desharnais<\/a>, the rights to forward Melvin\u2026 pic.twitter.com\/WxHPGna29f<\/a><\/p>\n

The Penguins traded defenceman Marcus Pettersson and forward Drew O’Connor to the Canucks. In exchange, the Penguins receive forward Danton Heinen, defenceman Vincent Desharnais, the rights to 2024 third-round pick <\/span>Melvin Fernstrom<\/span><\/a>, and the conditional 2025 first-round pick that the Canucks had received in the <\/span>aforementioned Miller trade<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Impact on the Canucks<\/span><\/h3>\n

Pettersson is the biggest name headed to Vancouver in the trade. He joins a Vancouver team that has two other Pettersons, but at least Marcus does not have to share his first name, unlike the other two. Marcus stood out on a bad Penguins defence. He averages just over 22 minutes a game, showing the Penguins coaching staff’s faith in him. On the offensive side of the ice, Marcus has three goals.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Canucks appear to be shaking up their roster. It is unclear if they plan to push for the playoffs or shake things up for the 2025-26 season. It will be interesting to see if Elias Pettersson<\/a> follows Miller out the door in a trade at a later time.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Marcus is an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. He will be motivated to finish the year strong to attract more suitors in free agency.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Impact on the Penguins<\/span><\/h3>\n

This is the first of many trades the Penguins are likely to make. The team is in sell mode. Furthermore, the only question is, how far do they go with selling? Marcus is the first domino to fall, but could we see Sidney Crosby<\/a> on the move? Time will tell, but anything is on the table with Pittsburgh.<\/span><\/p>\n
