Welcome back to NHL Predictions. <\/span>Each day,\u00a0<\/span>Last Word on Hockey<\/span><\/em> takes a look at the games that are scheduled<\/span> and offers insight and analysis to help predict who will be victorious in head-to-head matchups.<\/span> For today<\/span>, we are looking at the <\/span>game<\/span> between the <\/span>St. Louis Blues<\/span><\/a> and the <\/span>Anaheim Ducks<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

NHL Predictions<\/span><\/h2>\n

St. Louis Blues vs. Anaheim Ducks<\/span><\/h3>\n

Time:\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>8:00 P.M. Eastern Time<\/span><\/p>\n

The Blues and Ducks are meeting for the first time this season. <\/span>The Blues swept the season series last season <\/span>as well as the season before<\/span>.<\/span> In addition, the Blues have won seven straight games against the Ducks. In those seven games, the\u00a0<\/span>Blue Note\u00a0<\/span><\/em>has scored six goals four times.<\/span><\/p>\n

Blues Begin Home Stand<\/span><\/h4>\n

Thursday’s<\/span> game begins a four-game home stand for the Blues. The team returns home after consecutive 6-4 losses last <\/span>Saturday<\/span><\/a> and this past <\/span>Tuesday<\/span><\/a>. <\/span>Tuesday’s<\/span> loss was particularly hard for the team. The team took a 4-2 lead into the third period before giving up four straight goals. Head coach Jim Montgomery felt the team lacked the grit <\/span>needed<\/span> to secure the win.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cT<\/span>hought we were <\/span>really good<\/span> after we fell down 2-nothing,<\/span>\u201d <\/span>Montgomery said<\/span><\/a>.<\/span> \u201c<\/span>And I thought we were <\/span>really good<\/span> \u2018til<\/span> about eight-minute mark of the second, and then I thought we <\/span>didn\u2019t<\/span> have enough grit or as much determination as they did<\/span>.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Thankfully, the Blues get the opportunity to get back on track just 48 hours later. <\/span>Furthermore, the Blues get <\/span>an opportunity<\/span> to get two points against a team <\/span>that is<\/span> under .500<\/span>. <\/span>The Blues<\/span> have only a few sub-<\/span>.<\/span>500<\/span> opponents to <\/span>close out January<\/span><\/a>. <\/span>The team <\/span>needs to<\/span> take advantage and get two points against teams they should beat.<\/span><\/p>\n

For defenceman Cam Fowler, he will play against his former team for the first time since being <\/span>traded to the Blues in December<\/span><\/a>. Fowler has played well since joining the Blues, including a two-goal game in the <\/span>Winter Classic<\/span><\/a>. Fowler scored his 100th career goal in the Blues loss on Saturday.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Ducks Begin Road Trip<\/span><\/h4>\n

Thursday’s<\/span> game begins a six-game road trip for the Ducks. After a stop in St. Louis, the Ducks will finish their road trip with games against Eastern Conference opponents. The Ducks will not return home <\/span>until January 21st<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Ducks season has gone just about how <\/span>one might have expected<\/span><\/a>. The team has played in some close games but has not been able to sustain success. They are a rebuilding team and are looking towards the future. <\/span>However, the team <\/span>did<\/span> recently <\/span>make<\/span> a significant move <\/span>in<\/span> maintaining<\/span> leadership in the locker room by <\/span>re-signing<\/span><\/a> Frank Vatrano.<\/span> Vatrano has been a versatile player for the Ducks. His work ethic is <\/span>a great<\/span> example for a young locker room.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Prediction<\/span><\/h4>\n

The Blues lost two games that they could have won. Jim Montgomery has identified a lack of grit as a reason why the team did not finish the game the other night. We think the Blues will hit the ice strong on Thursday and look to make a statement to right the ship. It will be a good start to the home stand.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Blues win, 4-1.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

The over\/under for the game <\/span>is set<\/span> at 5.5 goals. We are taking just under that with five total goals.<\/span><\/p>\n

For prop bets,<\/span> we like Cam Fowler to light the lamp against his former team.<\/span> For the Ducks, we <\/span>are going to<\/span> keep with the theme of<\/span> “<\/span>scoring on former <\/span>team,<\/span>” <\/span>and select former Blue Robby Frabbi to score.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
