It is no surprise that the Flyers see him as part of their young core moving forward.

Travis Konecny Back In Philadelphia

Travis Konecny has enjoyed a solid first three years in the NHL. He has posted back to back 20-goal seasons. Konecny has also been close to 50 points the past two seasons. He finished the last two seasons with 24 goals, posting 23 assists last season and 25 assists this season. The 49 points he posted this season are the most so far in his young career.

It took him a while to get going to start the season, going pointless in four of the team’s first five games. He scored his first goal of the season in the team’s seventh game. There were a few scoring droughts he faced throughout the season, none longer than the 13 games between December and January.

Despite that, Konecny finished fourth in scoring among Flyers. His 24 goals were third on the team, ahead of teammates such as Claude Giroux and Jakub Voracek.

Drafted 24th overall in 2015, the knock on Konecny was his size. Standing at 5’10” and 175 lbs, Konecny isn’t the biggest player on the ice. But you wouldn’t know that, however, based on his style of play. He is not afraid to play the agitator role on the ice, but he has the skill to back it up. He proved that in a game against the New York Islanders on March 3rd. Scoring in the first period, Konecny would later drop the gloves with Jordan Eberle in the third.

5′ 10″ Travis Konecny and 5′ 11″ Jordan Eberle drop the gloves pic.twitter.com/BxZDY3sfia

— Brady Trettenero (@BradyTrett) March 3, 2019

What it Means for the Future

Balancing the line is something Konecny still has to work on, however. But that is something that will come with more time in the league. For now, he is proving to the Flyers that he can be a solid producer in the NHL.

Main Photo by Kate Frese (@KateFresePhoto), licensed to Last Word on Hockey.
