He had another procedure on his hip in January of 2018, an injury that ended his 2017-18 season. After the surgery, it was revealed there had been an issue for years but Bogosian delayed any surgery, turned away by the long recovery time.

Now, the issues are flaring up again. Bogosian missed the first five games of this past season. He then made it through most of the rest of the year, only missing four other games, before being held out of the final eight. That left him with a total of 65 games played.

These 65 games were the most he’s played in one season since 2011-12. In them, he recorded 19 points. Zach Bogosian and star rookie Rasmus Dahlin appeared in all but four games together. The two were the most consistent defensive pairing on the Sabres roster. While on the ice together, they combined for 24 goals for and 27 goals-against.

Dahlin was prolific at Bogosian’s side last season. Through his debut season, he recorded 44 points in 82 games. This ranked him fourth on the team in scoring. It also makes him a strong candidate for the Calder Memorial Trophy. The nominees for the Calder get announced on April 27. Dahlin was listed as one of the three nominees in Last Word on Sports Calder prediction.

A Look at the Sabres Defensive Depth

Bogosian ranked second on the team in average ice time, excluding Brandon Montour, who the Sabres acquired at the trade deadline. Looking forward to next season, there’s a good chance he stays at that pace next season too. That is if he can stay healthy.
