Also, the other three teams <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2024\/12\/04\/team-canada-2025-4-nations-face-off-tournament-roster\/\" target=\"_self\">Canada<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2024\/12\/04\/team-sweden-announces-four-nations-roster\/\" target=\"_self\">Sweden<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2024\/12\/04\/team-finlands-2025-4-nations-face-off-roster-announced\/\" target=\"_self\">Finland<\/a> all announced their respective teams on Wednesday. The tournament has been received with enthusiasm from most everybody and will be the first time the NHL has organized a World Cup-style event since 2016\u2019s <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">World Cup of Hockey<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The NHL has not fully participated in the Winter Olympics since 2014\u2019s hockey tournament in Sochi, Russia. Furthermore, there has not been a <em>World Cup of Hockey<\/em> in eight-and-a-half years, which had a badly received roster set-up. In 2016, players under 23 were not members of the Canadian and American teams. Instead, they were in their own group, Team North America. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now grown up and without the arguably odd grouping from the previous tournament, quite a few of those players will be representing their countries properly this February in the 4 Nations Face-Off.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Team USA general manager <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/g\/gueribi01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-12-04_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bill Guerin<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2024\/02\/08\/bill-guerin-named-usa-general-manager-for-2025-4-nations-face-off-and-2026-olympics\/\" target=\"_self\">who will also serve in the role for the 2026 Olympics<\/a>), alongside assistant general managers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/f\/fitzgto01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-12-04_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tom Fitzgerald<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/d\/drurych01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-12-04_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chris Drury<\/a>, and Bill Zito, have put together one heck of a team. It will be interesting to see how head coach <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/sullimi01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-12-04_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mike Sullivan<\/a> and assistant coach John Hynes will utilize each component in this playstyle-diverse team.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>The Star-Spangled Forwards<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Team USA\u2019s forward group, for the most part, really packs a punch. The forward pool\u2019s league centremen will be a thrill to watch, as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/matthau01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-12-04_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Auston Matthews<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/e\/eicheja01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-12-04_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jack Eichel<\/a> will be in the middle of it all. For Matthews, his appearance isn\u2019t a surprise by any means. He has consistently remained a top-player leaguewide since his debut season. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/e\/eicheja01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-12-04_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jack Eichel<\/a>, one of the NHL\u2019s current top scorers, will also be in the lineup per previous announcements. Furthermore, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=hugheja03,hugheja02&amp;search=Jack+Hughes&amp;utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-12-04_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jack Hughes<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/g\/guentja01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-12-04_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jake Guentzel<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/n\/nelsobr01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-12-04_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brock Nelson<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/l\/larkidy01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-12-04_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dylan Larkin<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/millejt01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-12-04_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">J.T. Miller<\/a> will don the stars and stripes on the ice, as well.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The league wingers are a unique and somewhat surprising selection of talents. Today, it was announced that <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/t\/trochvi01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-12-04_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Vincent Trocheck<\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/boldyma01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-12-04_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Matt Boldy<\/a> will be joining the team.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/connoky01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-12-04_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kyle Connor<\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has been having one heck of a season with the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/jets\/\" target=\"_self\">Winnipeg Jets<\/a>, having already racked up 29 points, nearly half of his points total from last season, just a little over a quarter through this season<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Meanwhile, Team USA will also have <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/k\/kreidch01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-12-04_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chris Kreider<\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a power play legend with strong net-front presence. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Additionally, it was announced that <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/t\/tkachbr01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-12-04_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brady Tkachuk<\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> would be joining his brother, Matthew, who was previously announced.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Red, White, Blueliners<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Team USA will have one heck of a defensive line. Previously announced was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/f\/foxad01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-12-04_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Adam Fox<\/a>, the top defenceman of the New York Rangers. The only Blueshirt with more ice time than Fox is goaltender <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/shestig01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-12-04_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Igor Shesterkin<\/a>. Joining him on the blue line is the top D-man for the Carolina Hurricanes, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/slavija01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-12-04_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jaccob Slavin<\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, who is considered one of the greatest shutdown defencemen of the modern game and currently leads the league in takeaways <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Much like Fox, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/hughequ01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-12-04_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Quinn Hughes<\/a> was previously announced, as well, and will unfortunately not be playing on the same team as his brother <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=hugheja03,hugheja02&amp;search=Jack+Hughes&amp;utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-12-04_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jack Hughes<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for the first time in their NHL careers. Furthermore, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/mcavoch01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-12-04_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Charlie McAvoy<\/a>, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/f\/faberbr01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-12-04_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brock Faber<\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/hanifno01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-12-04_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Noah Hanifin<\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/w\/werenza01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-12-04_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Zach Werenski<\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> will be joining the lineup.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>The Ramparts We\u2019re Watching in the Crease<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The goaltender crease is perhaps the strongest component in this iteration of Team USA. The first selection we want to talk about is none other than the NHL\u2019s <a  href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/PR_NHL\/status\/1863297888907841870\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Third Star of November<\/a>\u00a0and the latest William Jennings and Vezina Trophies Winner, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/helleco01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-12-04_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Connor Hellebuyck<\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The 31-year-old netminder has been boasting a goals-against average of 2.16 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and a save percentage of .927%<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. On top of that, he leads the league in shutouts <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and is ahead of all other US-born goaltenders in number of saves made<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Up next is, of course, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/o\/oettija01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-12-04_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jake Oettinger<\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The 6\u20196\u201d goalie has notched another great GAA of 2.38 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and a .915 SV%.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0Last on the list is Alaska&#8217;s own <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/swaymje01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-12-04_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jeremy Swayman<\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. This season, he has managed a GAA of 3.09 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and a .892% SV%<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Together, they have a combined GAA of 2.53<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and a combined save percentage of .912%.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Last Word on the 4 Nations Face-Off Team USA Roster<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the multiple best-on-best competitions between NHL players, the USA has rarely taken the win. Their only win was in the first <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">World Cup of Hockey<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in 1996. With the lack of tournaments and the lack of wins under USA\u2019s belt, extra elbow grease will likely go into this group. Team USA boasts a strong forward pool, a stronger defence, and what could be the best goaltending in the tournament.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The 4 Nations Face-Off is bringing excitement to spectator and player alike. In some cases, certain players will be on the same team as their fellow top talents for the first time. However, it is doubtful that it will be the last time we\u2019ll see similar teams together. Only four teams will be representing their country in this event, but we have a lot to look forward to. Gary Bettman has confirmed that the NHL will be participating in the 2026 and 2030 Olympics. Furthermore, the aforementioned <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">World Cup of Hockey<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> will be making a return in 2028 and 2032. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Perhaps this event will be utilized by team general managers to get a feel for who all will be the best bet for the upcoming tournaments? We\u2019ll just have to wait and see.
