{"id":451077,"date":"2024-09-16T12:35:09","date_gmt":"2024-09-16T16:35:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/?p=451077"},"modified":"2024-09-16T12:35:09","modified_gmt":"2024-09-16T16:35:09","slug":"red-wings-sign-forward-to-extension","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2024\/09\/16\/red-wings-sign-forward-to-extension\/","title":{"rendered":"Red Wings Sign Forward To Extension"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Detroit Red Wings have signed forward <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/berggjo02.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-09-16_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jonatan Berggren<\/a> to a one year $825,000 contract.<\/p>\n<h2>Red Wings Extend Berggren<\/h2>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">BERGY IS BACK! ?<\/p>\n<p>The <a  href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/RedWings?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">#RedWings<\/a> have signed forward Jonatan Berggren to a one-year contract with an AAV of $825,000. <a  href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/bxGkWx8FEF\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pic.twitter.com\/bxGkWx8FEF<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Detroit Red Wings (@DetroitRedWings) <a  href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DetroitRedWings\/status\/1835709030750187902?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">September 16, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>The Red Wings are bringing back one of their future depth pieces, signing Jonatan Berggren to a one-year deal.<\/p>\n<p>Berggren, 24, has played in parts of two seasons at the major level and has spent parts of three seasons with the AHL&#8217;s Grand Rapids Griffins.<\/p>\n<p>In the two full seasons he spent in Grand Rapids (2021-2022 and 2023-2024), he notched 64 and 56-point seasons.<\/p>\n<p>In his lone complete season with the Red Wings, he put up 28 points in 67 games.<\/p>\n<h3>What This Means<\/h3>\n<p>For the Red Wings, this is essentially bringing in a decent 30-point scorer.<\/p>\n<p>Although he hasn&#8217;t spent much time at the NHL level, he has played an almost complete season and notched almost 30 points.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2024\/09\/10\/2024-25-puck-drop-preview-detroit-red-wings\/\" target=\"_self\">A consistent bottom-six role<\/a> with solid depth around him, and he could consistently hit that 30-point mark.<\/p>\n<p>With his relatively low cap hit, this deal could make a lot of sense if he re-signs again next season.<\/p>\n<h3>An Important Upcoming Season<\/h3>\n<p>As it stands, this is an important season for Berggren.<\/p>\n<p>He has essentially signed a one-year prove-it deal, as he is fresh off a three-year $925k AAV ELC.<\/p>\n<p>Although he has put up solid points, it can be assumed that the Red Wings would look for a little more from the 24-year-old.<\/p>\n<p>As mentioned earlier, with a consistent roster spot he could achieve the numbers they want.
