The Rangers ended the season in the last place of the Metropolitan\u00a0Divison.\u00a0 He ended his time with the Rangers with a record of 226-147-37 over the five years he coached in New York.<\/p>\n<p>Over his 16-year NHL coaching career, Vigneault has coached the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/canadiens\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Montreal Canadiens<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/canucks\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Vancouver Canucks<\/a>, and the Rangers. Overall he has a 648-435-35-98 record in 1,216 games behind the bench. His greatest success was with the Rangers. He led the team to the playoffs in four of the five years that he coached there. Vigneault\u00a0won the Jack Adams Award in 2007 with the Canucks.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/flyers\/news\/flyers-name-alain-vigneault-head-coach--philadelphia-flyers\/c-306782494\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">&#8220;We are extremely excited to have Alain join this franchise and lead our team behind the bench for many years to come,&#8221;\u00a0said Fletcher.\u00a0&#8220;He brings a tremendous amount of success over an extended period of time that will prove valuable to our team to take the next steps in returning the winning culture to the Philadelphia Flyers organization.&#8221;\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>What This Means for the Team\u2019s Future<\/h2>\n<p>Vigneault last coached in the NHL during the 2017-18 season with the Rangers before being fired after the season. Despite not having a job for the past year Vigneault was recently named head coach of Team Canada for the World Championships\u00a0in May. Former <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/kings\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Los Angeles Kings<\/a> coach <strong>Wilie Desjardins<\/strong> landed a job with the Kings after coaching in the same tournament last summer.<\/p>\n<p>The Quebec City native is no stranger to the Stanley Cup Playoffs as he has coached in 139 playoff games including two Stanley Cup Finals.
