The off-season has been busy, from new potential team names to <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2024\/06\/23\/what-every-pwhl-team-needs-in-2024-free-agency-period\/\" target=\"_self\">new hires<\/a> to new arenas with updated capacity.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>PWHL Teasing Team Names<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On Thursday of last week, all six PWHL teams and the league teased an upcoming announcement on Monday, calling it a \u201cnew era\u201d as they enter their sophomore season.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">A new era is coming.<\/p>\n<p>09.09.2024 <a  href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/rPD4WBsZWT\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pic.twitter.com\/rPD4WBsZWT<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 PWHL (@thepwhlofficial) <a  href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/thepwhlofficial\/status\/1831773257290412399?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">September 5, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Each team shared posts on X (formerly Twitter) with colours and a quirky phrase, perhaps hinting at what is to come. Based on the colours from the posts, no teams are changing their primary colour. Minnesota will keep purple, Boston with green, Toronto with blue, and so on. PWHL Ottawa\u2019s general manager gave a timeline of mid-September for the name decision. Before the start of their inaugural season, the league had trademarked six names: <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Boston Wicked, Toronto Torch, Montreal Echo, Minnesota Superior, New York Sound, and Ottawa Alert, which were met with some negative reviews by fans.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Toronto and Montreal Move to New Home Arenas\u00a0<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2024\/08\/24\/before-the-pwhl-the-canadian-womens-hockey-league\/\" target=\"_self\">PWHL Toronto<\/a> announced this week that it will play its 2024-25 season at Coca-Cola Coliseum. It is the same barn as the Toronto Marlies. Toronto played at Mattamy Athletic Centre, formerly Maple Leaf Gardens, during year one.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe are\u202fexcited to be calling Coca-Cola Coliseum our home for the upcoming season,\u201d said Gina Kingsbury, General Manager of PWHL Toronto, in the <\/span><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.thepwhl.com\/en\/pwhl-toronto-announces-coca-cola-coliseum-as-primary-venue-for-2024-25-season\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">press release<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. \u201cWe look forward to creating an atmosphere that will be a unique and special sporting experience unlike anything else in\u202fToronto. Our incredible fans sold out this historic venue during our playoff games last season and now we can\u2019t wait to see and hear their infectious excitement again when we hit the ice for the 2024-2025 season.\u201d\u202f <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2024\/07\/09\/pwhl-montreal-mikayla-grant-mentis\/\" target=\"_self\">Montreal<\/a> also announced a change of venue for their home games. The team will play at Place Bell, home of the Laval Rockets.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Last season, both teams played their playoff games at their new arenas before capacity crowds. We are thrilled to have the PWHL call Place Bell \u2018home.\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>PWHL Minnesota Names New GM<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The reigning champions announced on Tuesday that Melissa Caruso is their next general manager.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Caruso has an extensive background in hockey. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Prior to becoming GM, she served as the Vice President of Hockey Operations and Governance in the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2024\/08\/20\/amanda-kessel-ditches-the-pwhl-for-the-ahl\/\" target=\"_self\">AHL<\/a>.
