Other New York Rangers playoffs showcase the success of the <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2024\/07\/23\/5-new-york-rangers-players-who-should-not-be-traded\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">long-time players<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> still on their 2024-25 roster. In light of the continued possibility for them to hoist Lord Stanley&#8217;s cup again, moves like the recent addition of a proven playoff performer, <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/rangers\/player\/reilly-smith-8475191\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Reilly Smith<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> are an example of those high expectations. So, here&#8217;s a recap of some of the <\/span><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Blueshirts\u00a0<\/span><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">best playoff performances in recent history. We go back just over ten years, to the 2014 run, and those playoff successes since that time.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/playoffs\/2022-new-york-rangers-vs-tampa-bay-lightning-eastern-conference-finals.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Their Best Recent Run and the 2022 Eastern Conference Final<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Right off the bat, we have a recent 20-game stretch from just two years ago. The New York Rangers recent playoff run in 2022 marked the last time before 2024 that the <\/span><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Blueshirts\u00a0<\/span><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">made the <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/playoffs\/2022-new-york-rangers-vs-tampa-bay-lightning-eastern-conference-finals.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Eastern Conference Final<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. Their first two series against fellow solid eastern teams were competitive and stretched to seven games. In the <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/playoffs\/2022-new-york-rangers-vs-pittsburgh-penguins-eastern-first-round.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">first round<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, the Rangers defeated their Metropolitan Division counterpart, the <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/penguins\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Pittsburgh Penguins<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, 4-3 in the series. The <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/playoffs\/2022-carolina-hurricanes-vs-new-york-rangers-eastern-second-round.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">second round<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> was similar, with the\u00a0<\/span><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Blueshirts\u00a0<\/span><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">defeating their East Coast rival the <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/category\/hurricanes\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Carolina Hurricanes<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> 4-3. This playoff run saw offensive career-best NHL playoff performances in multiple players plus some great highlights. Here&#8217;s a recap of a few.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/shestig01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-08-29_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Igor Shesterkin<\/span><\/a><\/h3>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Towards the end of <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsnet.ca\/nhl\/article\/rangers-goalie-igor-shesterkin-awarded-vezina-trophy\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">June 2022<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, netminder <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/rangers\/player\/igor-shesterkin-8478048\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Igor Shesterkin<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> won the Vezina Trophy for best NHL goaltender. After starting and playing all 20 playoff games that year, Shesterkin notched a .929 save percentage and 2.59 goals-against average. He even tallied three assists. In this year&#8217;s playoffs, Shesterkin won ten and lost nine of his games. This year&#8217;s performance, especially culminating in a Vezina, is one of the many reasons Shesterkin is considered <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">to be<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> one of the best netminders in <\/span><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Blueshirts\u00a0<\/span><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">history.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">New York Rangers Playoffs Offensive Performance Starting with <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/z\/zibanmi01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-08-29_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Mika Zibanejad<\/span><\/a><\/h3>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">In 2022, the <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">then<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> 29-year-old centreman Mika Zibanejad had the best offensive playoff performance of his NHL career with ten goals and 14 assists totaling 24 points in all 20 playoff games. In <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/gamecenter\/car-vs-nyr\/2022\/05\/28\/2021030226\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Game 6<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> of the <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/playoffs\/2022-carolina-hurricanes-vs-new-york-rangers-eastern-second-round.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">second round<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> against the Hurricanes on May 28, 2022, Zibanejad scored a power play wrister goal to make the score 2-0\u00a0<\/span><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Blueshirts. <\/span><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">It was scored 9:51 into the first period following <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/mottety01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-08-29_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Tyler Motte<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8216;s unassisted goal. The Rangers would win 5-2, never losing the lead in that game.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/f\/foxad01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-08-29_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Adam Fox<\/span><\/a><\/h3>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Defenceman Adam Fox, then just 24 years old, had the best offensive playoff performance of his NHL career <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">so far<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. That playoff saw him record five goals and 18 assists for 23 points in all 20 playoff games. <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/frozenpool.dobbersports.com\/players\/adam-fox\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Fox<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> also notched 37 blocks, his second-most in an NHL playoffs, and 17 hits, his most in an NHL playoffs. A year prior, the New York State native took the James Norris Memorial Trophy. In <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/gamecenter\/car-vs-nyr\/2022\/05\/30\/2021030227\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Game 7<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> of the Eastern Conference Second Round series against the Hurricanes, Fox opened New York&#8217;s scoring with a power play snap shot goal 3:40 into the first period. The goal was assisted by <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/l\/lafreal01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-08-29_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Alexis Lafreniere<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> and then Rangers centreman <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/redwings\/player\/andrew-copp-8477429\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Andrew Copp<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. The\u00a0<\/span><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Blueshirts\u00a0<\/span><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">would end up winning this game 6-2 and would advance to the Eastern Conference Final.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Also in this <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/gamecenter\/car-vs-nyr\/2022\/05\/30\/2021030227\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">game<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, which took place on May 30, 2022, <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">then<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> Hurricane <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/rangers\/player\/vincent-trocheck-8476389\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Vincent Trocheck<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> scored a tip-in power play goal in the third period to open the scoring for Carolina. It was assisted by Canes star forward <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/hurricanes\/player\/sebastian-aho-8478427\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Sebastian Aho<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> and blueliner <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/tony-deangelo-8477950\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Tony DeAngelo<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. Of course, Trocheck more recently had the best offensive NHL playoff performance of his career with the <\/span><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Blueshirts\u00a0<\/span><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">in their deep 2024 playoff run.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/k\/kreidch01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-08-29_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Chris Kreider<\/span><\/a><\/h3>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Left winger <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/rangers\/player\/chris-kreider-8475184\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Chris Kreider<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> was yet another excellent offensive playoff performer in 2022. The then 31-year-old Massachusetts native&#8217;s NHL playoff goal-scoring peaked that year with ten in those 20 games. Kreider also picked six apples (assists), <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">which is<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> second-best in the NHL playoff career. But that, plus his ten goals added up to 16 points to make an offensive NHL playoff career-best for Kreider. On May 5, 2022, during <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/gamecenter\/nyr-vs-pit\/2022\/05\/05\/2021030142\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Game 2<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> of the 2022 Eastern Conference Playoffs First Round, Kreider scored a tip-in goal in the second period to make the score 3-1 for the <\/span><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Blueshirts.\u00a0<\/span><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">New York would win this game 5-2.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Alexis Lafreniere<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Quebec native left-winger Alexis Lafreniere notched two goals and seven assists (nine points) in all 20 playoff games in the 2022 New York Rangers playoffs.\u00a0On May 11, 2022, during <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/gamecenter\/nyr-vs-pit\/2022\/05\/11\/2021030145\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Game Five<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> of the <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/playoffs\/2022-new-york-rangers-vs-pittsburgh-penguins-eastern-first-round.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Eastern Conference First Round<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> series against the Pittsburgh Penguins, Lafreniere broke Pittsburgh&#8217;s 2-1 lead with a slap shot goal in the second period. The <\/span><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Blueshirts\u00a0<\/span><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">would ultimately win this game, at Madison Square Garden, 5-3.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The Number 2. <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/playoffs\/2014-los-angeles-kings-vs-new-york-rangers-stanley-cup-final.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">2014 Playoff Run to Stanley Cup Final<\/span><\/a><\/h3>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The 2014 playoffs were a long and fierce 25-game run for the <\/span><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Blueshirts.\u00a0<\/span><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">It saw seven-game series wins against the <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/playoffs\/2014-new-york-rangers-vs-philadelphia-flyers-eastern-first-round.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Philadelphia Flyers<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> (4-3) and the <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/playoffs\/2014-new-york-rangers-vs-pittsburgh-penguins-eastern-second-round.html#:~:text=New%20York%20Rangers%20defeat%20Pittsburgh%20Penguins%204%2D3\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Pittsburgh Penguins<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> (4-3). The Eastern Conference Final against the Montreal Canadiens was a shorter, more decisive 4-2 series <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/playoffs\/2014-montreal-canadiens-vs-new-york-rangers-eastern-conference-finals.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">win<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> for the Rangers.\u00a0With an excellent team that playoffs including legendary goaltender <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/henrik-lundqvist-8468685\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Henrik Lundqvist<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, it is no surprise the\u00a0<\/span><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Blueshirts\u00a0<\/span><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">ended up taking<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> the <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/news\/nhl-prince-of-wales-trophy-winners-complete-list-287821924\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Prince of Wales Trophy<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> that year.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/l\/lundqhe01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-08-29_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Henrik Lundqvist<\/span><\/a><\/h3>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> already Vezina Trophy-winning goaltender and future Hall of Famer played the most games in the playoffs of his career in 2014, starting and playing all 25 games.<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> With 13 wins, a shutout, and a .927 save percentage, Lundqvist is just one example of what made that year&#8217;s team so special.\u00a0This was also the playoffs that Lundqvist notched an assist.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/mcdonry01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-08-29_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Ryan McDonagh<\/span><\/a><\/h3>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Then\u00a0<\/span><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Blueshirts\u00a0<\/span><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">defenceman <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/lightning\/player\/ryan-mcdonagh-8474151\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Ryan McDonagh<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> had the best offensive performance in an NHL playoff of his career that year with four goals and 13 assists (17 points) in those 25 games.\u00a0<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">In terms of<\/span> <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/frozenpool.dobbersports.com\/players\/ryan-mcdonagh\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">defensive numbers<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, McDonagh also notched 48 blocks and 52 hits in those games.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Sadly, however, the\u00a0<\/span><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Blueshirts\u00a0<\/span><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">would eventually lose to the Los Angeles Kings 4-1 in the <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/playoffs\/2014-los-angeles-kings-vs-new-york-rangers-stanley-cup-final.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Stanley Cup Final<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> series.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/playoffs\/2015-new-york-rangers-vs-tampa-bay-lightning-eastern-conference-finals.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span
