The New York Rangers goaltending coach who was a key factor in developing excellent goalies Igor Shesterkin<\/a> and Henrik Lundqvist<\/a> will be reducing his duties after two decades with the team.<\/p>\n

Jeff Malcolm Promoted To Rangers Goaltending Coach<\/h2>\n

Firstly, the Rangers goaltending coaching staff has an update, with the promotion of a new coach. On Wednesday, Mollie Walker of The New York Post\u00a0<\/em>reported on X<\/a> that Jeff Malcolm has been promoted to the position. Malcolm has been with the Rangers for six years, with the past three as the Hartford Wolf Pack goalie coach. From 2018-19 to 2020-21, Malcolm was a Rangers goaltending consultant, as well as one for the Wolf Pack in 2020-21. He has worked a lot with Allaire to help goaltenders both on the ice and off the ice. The pair have a good history – in 2022-23, Allaire went on medical leave, and Malcolm took his place, The Post <\/em><\/a>reported.\u00a0Malcolm was a goaltender<\/a> for the NCAA’s Yale University team, as well as for the Hartford Wolf Pack between 2013-14 and 2016-17.<\/p>\n

Former coach Benoit Allaire will remain with the Rangers, a goaltending coach<\/a> with them since 2004-05. Allaire was previously a goalie coach with the Phoenix Coyotes from 1997-98 to 2003-04 and the Montreal Canadiens in 1996-97. He also coached for two teams in the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) from 1988 to 1992. With the Blueshirts for 20 years, Allaire will remain the director of goaltending. He has held this position since June 2021 upon his promotion by Rangers General Manager Chris Drury<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Brendan Burke will serve as the Wolf Pack’s new goaltending coach.<\/p>\n

Igor Shesterkin<\/a> and Henrik Lundqvist<\/h2>\n

Allaire has been a Rangers staple for two decades, a major part of the development of former star Henrik Lundqvist and current star Igor Shesterkin. Shesterkin was particularly helpful in the\u00a0<\/em>Blueshirts\u00a0<\/em>deep 2024 playoff run, and Lundqvist holds numerous Blueshirts <\/em>goaltending records.<\/p>\n
