The long-time <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2020\/06\/14\/hockey-history-brian-leetch-new-york-rangers\/\" target=\"_self\">Rangers announcer<\/a>\u00a0has been the voice of over <a  href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/08\/13\/sports\/legendary-rangers-voice-sam-rosen-retiring-after-next-season\/?utm_campaign=nypost&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=twitter\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">3,000<\/a> Blueshirts games.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;ve been living out a dream for the last 40-plus years. To be able to call the games for the team I&#8217;ve been cheering for since I was a 10-year-old kid in Brooklyn is magical,&#8221; said Rosen according to the <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/C-n9iyjOz9d\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rangers and MSG Networks.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Rosen, whose <a  href=\"https:\/\/books.google.ca\/books?id=bXJgqTXTelsC&amp;q=%22Sam+Rosen%22+ulm&amp;pg=PA225&amp;redir_esc=y#v=snippet&amp;q=%22Sam%20Rosen%22%20ulm&amp;f=false\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">77th birthday<\/a> was Monday, has called play-by-play for the Blueshirts on <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.msgnetworks.com\/personalities\/sam-rosen\/#:~:text=Sam%20Rosen%20has%20been%20calling,Stanley%20Cup%20for%20the%20first\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MSG Network<\/a> since 1984.\u00a0<a  href=\"https:\/\/www.msgnetworks.com\/personalities\/sam-rosen\/#:~:text=Sam%20Rosen%20has%20been%20calling,Stanley%20Cup%20for%20the%20first\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MSG<\/a> called him &#8220;one of the most knowledgeable and thorough play-by-play personalities in sports.&#8221; He has called games alongside legendary NHL Hall-of-Famer <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/phil-esposito-8446722\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Phil Esposito. <\/a>Rosen also calls football games every week for the <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.nfl.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">National Football League<\/a> on FOX.<\/p>\n<p>The Rangers announcer&#8217;s <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.msgnetworks.com\/personalities\/sam-rosen\/#:~:text=Sam%20Rosen%20has%20been%20calling,Stanley%20Cup%20for%20the%20first\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">awards<\/a> include four New York Emmys for his Blueshirts coverage and he is an eight-time nominee for play-by-play achievement. <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.msgnetworks.com\/personalities\/sam-rosen\/#:~:text=Sam%20Rosen%20has%20been%20calling,Stanley%20Cup%20for%20the%20first\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rosen<\/a> won the Hockey Hall of Fame&#8217;s 2016 Foster Hewitt Memorial Award. <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.msgnetworks.com\/personalities\/sam-rosen\/#:~:text=Sam%20Rosen%20has%20been%20calling,Stanley%20Cup%20for%20the%20first\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">He<\/a> called games on NHL Radio from 1996 to 2008, including a dozen Stanley Cup Finals.<\/p>\n<p><a  href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/08\/13\/sports\/legendary-rangers-voice-sam-rosen-retiring-after-next-season\/?utm_campaign=nypost&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=twitter\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">He <\/a>was born in Germany and moved to Brooklyn with his family at the age of two. As a boy, he became a fan of multiple iconic New York sports teams. The Blueshirts, the fellow Madison Square Garden team Knicks, as well as MLBs New York Yankees and the NFLs New York Giants. Now, let\u2019s take a look at some of his iconic calls for the Rangers.<\/p>\n<h2>Best Calls by Sam Rosen<\/h2>\n<h3>1. &#8220;And this one will last a lifetime!&#8221; Rangers Announcer Calls 1994 Stanley Cup Victory<\/h3>\n<p>Without a doubt, his most iconic call was the <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/gamecenter\/nyr-vs-van\/1994\/06\/14\/1993030417\/recap\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">1994 Stanley Cup championship<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We want the cup!&#8221; <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Dr0m5bWAgk0\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">fans<\/a> chanted with just over a second left on the clock. It was the Blueshirts&#8217; first Stanley Cup since <a  href=\"https:\/\/puckpedia.com\/team\/new-york-rangers\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">1940<\/a>, and fourth ever.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe waiting is over! Game 7 was 2-1 in 2OT at Madison Square Garden.<\/p>\n<p><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Dr0m5bWAgk0\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rangers Win Stanley Cup 6\/14\/1994 &#8211; YouTube<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>2. &#8220;They win the series four games to one!&#8221; Blueshirts beat Penguins in <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/playoffs\/2015-new-york-rangers-vs-pittsburgh-penguins-eastern-first-round.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">2015 NHL Eastern First Round<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>On <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/gamecenter\/nyr-vs-pit\/2015\/04\/24\/2014030135\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">April 24, 2015<\/a>, Derek Stepan&#8217;s power play snap shot goal in the first period and forward Carl Hagelin&#8217;s overtime game-winning wrister helped them defeat the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-1 in the <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/gamecenter\/nyr-vs-pit\/2015\/04\/24\/2014030135\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">series<\/a>. The game took place at Madison Square Garden and saw Stepan&#8217;s goal in the first period and then Pens&#8217; forward Nick Spaling in the second, off an assist from <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/penguins\/player\/sidney-crosby-8471675\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sidney Crosby<\/a> and then Pens&#8217; forward <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/steve-downie-8471703\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Steve Downie<\/a>. But there was no scoring in the third, so overtime was forced.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Rangers win! Rangers win! They win the series four games to one!&#8221; Rosen called.<\/p>\n<h3>3. &#8220;Captain Callahan comes through!&#8221; Rangers Get 2013 Playoff Spot<\/h3>\n<p>On April 25, 2013, then Blueshirts <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.eliteprospects.com\/team\/68\/new-york-rangers\/captaincy-history\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">captain<\/a> Ryan Callahan, one of the <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/gamecenter\/car-vs-nyr\/2013\/04\/25\/2012020696\/recap\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">three stars of the game<\/a>, scored an overtime, game-winning snap shot 2:55 into OT.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There&#8217;s Callahan moving deep! He shoots! He scores! Rangers win! They&#8217;re in the playoffs! Captain Callahan comes through!&#8221;\u00a0Rosen said.<\/p>\n<p>They won this <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/gamecenter\/car-vs-nyr\/2013\/04\/25\/2012020696\/recap\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">game\u00a0<\/a>4-3 against the Carolina Hurricanes off goals from Derek Stepan, who opened the scoring, Derick Brassard, Brad Richards and finally Callahan. The Blueshirts were the second New York team that week to notch a playoff position in Carolina, with the New York Islanders doing it just a couple days before.<\/p>\n<p><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsnet.ca\/hockey\/nhl\/rangers-clinch-playoff-berth-in-ot-over-canes\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rangers clinch playoff berth in OT over Canes (sportsnet.ca)<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>4. &#8220;Oh, baby, what a goal!&#8221; Rangers Announcer Calls Overtime Game-Winner<\/h3>\n<p>On November 24, 2017, <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/gamecenter\/det-vs-nyr\/2017\/11\/24\/2017020341\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mats Zuccarello<\/a> scored a game-winning snap shot 37 seconds into overtime to beat the Detroit Red Wings 2-1. In the same game, former Blueshirts goalie <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/henrik-lundqvist-8468685\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Henrik Lundqvist<\/a> notched 40 saves on 41 shots.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He scores! Rangers win!
