Fans will have to wait to see the PWHL team names and logos, as the league will not meet its original August deadline. In May, the PWHL advisory board confirmed that team names and logos would come in the summer<\/a>. However, that will not come to be at this time.<\/span><\/p>\n

PWHL League News of Team Names and Logos Being Announced Delayed<\/h3>\n

PWHL Ottawa general manager Mike Hirshfeld<\/a> told <\/span>TSN 1200<\/span><\/a> this morning, <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span>As much as I know, schedule release is due at the end of September, logo and names, probably around the middle of September.”<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Hirshfeld also said on the show that he believes everything is still on track, contradicting what the league originally proposed.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Last year, the league placed trademarks on six potential team names. Boston Wicked, Toronto Torch, Montreal Echo, Minnesota Superior, New York Sound, and Ottawa Alert. They ultimately did not use those and just went with each city name and with no logos for their inaugural season. They announced at the start of the season that they would be using temporary jerseys. <\/span>Many fans of the PWHL responded negatively<\/a> when those trademarked names came out.<\/p>\n

Clarity on Why the Names and Logos Have Taken a While to Create<\/h3>\n

In an article by The Athletic<\/a>, Amy Scheer, the PWHL’s vice president, said that names and logos and an overall team brand was too important to have done in year one. It did not fit in the tight schedule they had for their launch.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“When you come out with a team name, you want to have a full brand story, why the imagery and the logo, why the colours, why the name. And I just didn\u2019t feel that we should rush it because you can\u2019t walk back from it,\u201d Scheer said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The Hockey News<\/span><\/a> contacted the PWHL to confirm the names and logos timeline but has not yet received a response.<\/span><\/p>\n
