The staff hopes to see a major leap from the 21-year-old prospect at the teams’ developmental camp and during the preseason. He struggled early on in his AHL career but was able to turn it around during the 2023-2024 season. Before Boston, Lysell played for the Vancouver Giants of the WHL during the 2021-2022 season. Lysell tallied 22 goals and 40 assists for a total of 62 points in 53 games played. That season with Vancouver, Lysell was able to show his versatility in the offensive zone and contribute in many ways.

Lysell struggled in his first season with Providence with only 14 goals and 23 assists in 54 games. However, he showed glimpses of his speed and offensive impact with the opportunities he created. He is coming off his second season with the Providence Bruins where he racked up 15 goals and 35 assists, for 50 points in 56 games played. Additionally, he was able to demonstrate his quick skating and phenomenal speed. Something the Bruins have been eyeing for their lineup.

Lysell’s best attributes are his speed and smooth edges which complement his north-to-south style of play. His abilities and dynamic play make him an exciting prospect for the Boston Bruins. Lysell provides Boston with another forward who can create scoring chances for himself and his teammates as well. He also possesses a quick and powerful wrist shot. Most of his goals this past season came from wrist shots or one-timers. Lysell’s creativity to get the puck to other teammates gives him a stronger chance of earning a roster spot for the Bruins this upcoming season.

Lysell possesses many strengths in his game, but still has areas that need more development. Lysell showed a lack of consistency in his first two years with Providence and proved it needs to be developed more, especially as he adjusts to the NHL level. He plays an aggressive game but lacks size only being 5’11 and 185 pounds. Adding more physical strength would make it easier for Lysell to compete at the highest level. Allowing him to be more relentless in the offensive zone.

The Opportunity

There is a spot on the wing available for the young Swedish prospect with the recent departure of Jake Debrusk. With Lysell being a true contributor in the offensive zone, a second-line role makes sense for the talented prospect. Especially considering the guys he will get a chance to play alongside. Lysell could slide into the second-line right-winger role for Boston’s’ top-six core. He would have the opportunity to play with either center Charlie Coyle or Matthew Poitras, and veteran captain Brad Marchand on the left wing. Playing alongside Marchand and Coyle would provide experienced linemates for Lysell and create space for him to create more opportunities. The Bruins are desperate for young speed and skilled wingers.
