He has done a tremendous job drafting over the years and has also done well supplementing the roster. One of the moves he’s made over the years is trading for Lundkvist and acquiring him from the New York Rangers.

Given how loaded the Rangers blueline is, the opportunity for Lundkvist to get significant ice time was not available. After coming over to the Stars, there is more opportunity for him to carve out a role for himself. He is a young player but worth investing into. That’s why this Lundkvist contract makes sense for both sides.

Investing in Lundkvist is Wise for Dallas

Lundkvist has only three years of NHL experience under his belt. However, ever since coming to the Stars, he has shown what he is capable of going. Lundkvist may not blow you away with his shutdown ability but he is gifted offensively and can be a boost on the back end.

During the 2022-23 season, Lundkvist showed he was with acquiring. He went on to score six goals and have 16 points. In a similar amount of games played, he increased his production. Lundkvist went on to have a career high in points with 19 and 17 of them were assists. He was not always an everyday player, but he was showed that he belongs.

Lundkvist is a young but promising talent and if given the opportunity he can be a solid depth defenceman on this contending roster. However, this is a prove-it deal for him.

Main Photo: Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

The Dallas Stars are keeping one of their own.
