The New York Rangers have come to terms with one of their own. Defencemen Braden Schneider<\/a> has a new contract and will remain with the club. The deal is for two years<\/a> and he will have an AAV of $2.2 million per season. General Manager Chris Drury<\/a> continues to keep his young defenceman in the Big Apple and help round out the three pairs. <\/span><\/p>\n

Schneider\u2019s Contract Keeps him in New York<\/span><\/h2>\n

The Rangers continue to be a competitive hockey club. They have a tremendous blend of veterans and youth. Not to mention they have one of the best goalies in the world in Igor Shesterkin<\/a>. As for the youth, there is a special blend of it on the blue line with K\u2019Andre Miller and Braden Schneider. Miller was extended last year and Schneider got his due this year. <\/span><\/p>\n

Schneider primarily has been on the third pair for the Rangers, as it gives them tremendous balance. He found the best success with veteran Erik Gustafsson<\/a>. Also, he spent time with Miller and Zac Jones. Schneider is not the biggest offensive threat, but is coming off a career year of 19 points. <\/span><\/p>\n

Schneider is a stay at home kind of player, as he is unafraid to get physical and sacrifice the body. He finished the season with 167 hits and 133 blocked shots. He is a great depth defenceman and his youth is a huge bonus. <\/span><\/p>\n

Future Remains Bright in New York<\/span><\/h3>\n

This Schneider contract is great for both sides. Schneider gets a good deal to keep him with the Rangers and allows him to stay on this contending team. As for the Rangers, this is a tremendous extension and great value for the club. <\/span><\/p>\n

The Rangers are not going away anytime soon. This is a core group that is built to win now and compete as the years go on. Keeping Schneider in the fold is great for depth and a great way to continue to mix in the youth. What a great day for both sides. <\/span><\/p>\n
