Do they deserve to be up 3-1? With the way they played in game four, the answer is no.\u00a0 After all, for 57 minutes in game four, it looked like the Canucks were on their way to a horrible loss. But the Canucks and their resiliency have powered through<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">What looked like an absolute stinker of a game turned into one of the most memorable in franchise history. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/boesebr01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-04-30_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brock Boeser<\/a> scored two goals in less than three minutes and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/l\/lindhel01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-04-30_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Elias Lindholm<\/a> won it early in overtime. Vancouver has had trouble generating shots on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/sarosju01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-04-30_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Juuse Saros<\/a> all series and at times been suffocated by the Predators and their physicality. The playoffs are a grind and the Canucks are learning that.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The Canucks and their Resiliency with Goaltending Injuries<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/d\/demkoth01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-04-30_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Thatcher Demko<\/a> was one of, if not the biggest x-factor for Vancouver heading into the series. After a stellar performance in game one, it was reported he would\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FriedgeHNIC\/status\/1782828962043031998\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">miss the rest of the series\u00a0<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">with a\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DonnieandDhali\/status\/1621235548215209984\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">knee injury.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/d\/desmica01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-04-30_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Casey DeSmith<\/a> had the opportunity to step in and become a hero. He gave up the first goal on the first Nashville shot in game two and the Canucks ended up losing 4-1. DeSmith was excellent in game three despite the amount of rebounds he gave.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">But things got even more crazy. If you don&#8217;t believe in curses, you might have started to after it was reported that DeSmith would not suit up for game four because of an unknown injury.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">So it was time for 23-year-old <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/silovar01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-04-30_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Arturs Silovs<\/a> to make <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2024\/04\/28\/arturs-silovs-starting-game-four-for-vancouver-canucks\/\" target=\"_self\">his first career playoff start<\/a>. It was a baptism by fire. But the Latvian goalkeeper made 27 saves and kept his team in the game. But it was never going to be an easy series.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">As mentioned earlier, Nashville has been very physical with the Canucks. Vancouver captain <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/hughequ01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-04-30_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Quinn Hughes<\/a> has been knocked around a lot in this series, particularly in game four. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/carrial01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-04-30_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Alexandre Carrier<\/a> has 11 hits and leads the Predators in that category. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/mcdonry01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-04-30_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ryan McDonagh<\/a> has 10 hits while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/j\/josiro01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-04-30_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Roman Josi<\/a> has eight. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/z\/zuckeja01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-04-30_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jason Zucker<\/a>, Sissons and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/mccarmi01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-04-30_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Michael McCarron<\/a> have also laid out their bodies all series.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Speaking of injuries, Hughes clearly felt the effects of being hit in game four especially after he was sandwiched between Zucker and Sissons.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">But he persevered and sent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/n\/nyquigu01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-04-30_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gustav Nyquist<\/a> to the Shadow Realm before Boeser tied it up.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">just the quinn hughes deke on repeat <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Canucks?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">#Canucks<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/lEeP950cMI\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pic.twitter.com\/lEeP950cMI<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; kw\u00efn h\u00fcz (@riotsurvivor) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/riotsurvivor\/status\/1784915213738705376?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">April 29, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Vancouver has also had trouble getting shots on Saros in the last three games. They managed 15 in Game Two, 12 in Game 3 and 21 in Game 4. Most of the shots would miss the net or the Predators would block them like their lives depended on doing so.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Yet, the Canucks have outscored the Predators in the last three games 7-6. It&#8217;s not much but they managed three wins.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">They&#8217;ve constantly been hit, outshot and outplayed and looked gassed. Yet the Canucks and their resiliency came through. That was especially true in Game 4 as they stole the win and<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=n3epi9hPbqQ\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> like 11 men stealing $160 million in cash from a Las Vegas casino,<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> it was improbable but they did it.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Closing the Series out in Five Must Happen<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cThe resiliency of the group all year, that\u2019s a tough game to come back from,&#8221;\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Canucks\/status\/1785040433955119424\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">said Canucks head coach <\/span><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/t\/tocchri01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-04-30_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rick Tocchet<\/a> to the media on Monday.<span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0&#8220;Obviously the last three minutes and overtime went our way, so can we build off of that.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The Canucks can send the Predators to the golf courses on Tuesday night with a win at Rogers Arena. But like this series so far, it&#8217;s not going to be easy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8220;After we won everyone\u2019s high-fiving, but five minutes later guys are already focused on the next task,&#8221;<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/canucksarmy.com\/news\/better-tocchet-talks-elias-pettersson-canucks-mindset-game-five\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0said Tocchet on his team&#8217;s mentality per Jagrag Lalli of Canucks Army. &#8220;<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">It\u2019s like they come back down to Earth. I appreciate that attitude. There\u2019s no lingering celebration, just an immediate shift to, \u2018Alright, how do we improve?\u2019 That\u2019s been the attitude of this team all year, and I respect it. There\u2019s no cockiness or satisfaction. Guys are always looking to elevate their game, not blaming others for shortcomings. That\u2019s a positive for us.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">That is great to hear. Perhaps there will be more shots on Saros, fewer turnovers and hopefully, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/p\/petteel01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-04-30_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Elias Pettersson<\/a> returning to form in Game Five.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">It would be a lot better for the Canucks to wrap up the series in five. It&#8217;s clear they are gassed and some players are banged up. A few days off between the first and second round would be ideal. Flying back to Nashville with the momentum on the side of the Predators isn&#8217;t ideal.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">More Pain than Pleasure<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The Canucks resiliency has gotten them this far but it is time for the final blow.
