Quinn had been coach the team the last two seasons, but San Jose finished last in the league. The Cranston, Rhode Island native had complied a 41-98-25 mark, which was the worst record in that span. This is the second time that Quinn has been fired from an NHL head coaching post. The Rangers let go of Quinn after a 96-87-25 record. New York fired him after he missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs in his final year in 2020-21.<\/p>\n<p>He replaced <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/boughbo01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-04-24_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bob Boughner<\/a> quickly after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/g\/griermi01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-04-24_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mike Grier<\/a> took over as the team&#8217;s general manager. The Sharks are at the beginning of a painful rebuild that saw many players like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/k\/karlser01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-04-24_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Erik Karlsson<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/burnsbr01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-04-24_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brent Burns<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/hertlto01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-04-24_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tomas Hertl<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/meierti01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-04-24_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Timo Meier<\/a> get shipped out of town. San Jose was outscored by 147 goals this season, excluding shootouts. This was the 12th-worst mark ever and the worst in 30 years since Ottawa was outscored by 196 goals in 1993-94.<\/p>\n<p>He was also head coach at Boston University. However, this is where he found the most success in his coaching career. Quinn took the Terriers to four NCAA Tournaments. However, the team didn&#8217;t win a national title.<\/p>\n<h3>What it Means<\/h3>\n<p>San Jose now enters the coaching market. However, this team will not be spoiled for choice. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/berubcr01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-04-24_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Craig Berube<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/mclelto01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-04-24_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Todd McLellan<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/boudrbr01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2024-04-24_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bruce Boudreau<\/a> and others could be names if the Sharks go with a veteran.<\/p>\n<p>The Sharks have the best chance of landing the top overall pick. This could yield the team coveted prospect Macklin Celebrini.
