College free agents are signing with teams and teams are already thinking about the off-season. Clubs will have to make big decisions about their future soon.<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s NHL rumours focus on the<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/canucks\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Vancouver Canucks<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/rangers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New York Rangers<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/wild\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Minnesota Wild<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>All rumours are taken from the original source and are subject to change.<\/p>\n<h1>NHL Rumours<\/h1>\n<h2>Vancouver Canucks<\/h2>\n<p><em>Rumour: Irfaan Gaffar of Sportsnet reports that there\u2019s no news on contract talks between the club and veteran defenceman <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/e\/edleral01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Alexander Edler<\/a>.<\/strong> The Swedish blueliner <a href=\"https:\/\/www.capfriendly.com\/players\/alexander-edler\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">carries a $5 million cap hit<\/a> and his contract is up at the end of the season.<\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Benning &#8211; Nothing new on the Edler front. General manager <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/benniji01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jim Benning<\/a> <\/strong>will have to weigh the pros and cons of keeping or getting his salary off the books.<\/p>\n<p><em>Rumour: The second Canucks\u2019 rumour involves University of Michigan product Will Lockwood. He is undecided on whether the third-round pick will sign his pro deal or will return to school. His season ended last weekend when his school was knocked out by Minnesota in the first round of the Big Ten tournament.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Benning also said Will Lockwood, a 2016 third-round pick, has not not decided whether to leave Michigan and turn pro. The winger had 31 points (16-15) in 36 games and had shoulder surgery following 2018 WJHC. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Canucks?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">#Canucks<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Ben Kuzma \ud83c\udde8\ud83c\udde6\ud83c\uddfa\ud83c\udde6 (@benkuzma) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/benkuzma\/status\/1105175760774488065?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">March 11, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Analysis: Lockwood finished a solid season with 16 goals and 15 assists for 31 points in 36 games. He\u2019s solid on both ends of the ice and would be an infusion of young talent for Vancouver. He\u2019s also got a chance to reunite with college teammate <strong>Quinn Hughes<\/strong> up north.<\/p>\n<p>He could be an interesting addition for the Canucks if he does decide to go pro. While he likely will not start in Vancouver, he may be able to show what he has in Utica.<\/p>\n<h1>New York Rangers<\/h1>\n<p><em>Rumour: Larry Brooks of the New York Post said the Blueshirts <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2019\/03\/12\/rangers-will-remember-this-chris-kreider-disappearing-act\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">need to decide on the future<\/a> of <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/k\/kreidch01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chris Kreider<\/a>.<\/strong> The American forward is due for a contract extension at the end of the season. He had a strong start to the season, but only has two points in his last seven games.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Analysis: The Rangers have fully embraced the rebuild but haven\u2019t rolled over in games under head coach David Quinn. New York plays teams hard and Kreider is still one of the remnants of the team that made the 2013 Stanley Cup final.<\/p>\n<p>Kreider\u2019s speed would be an asset for a team looking to cement its contender status. General manager Jeff Gorton needs to figure out his plans for the speedy winger.<\/p>\n<h2>Minnesota Wild<\/h2>\n<p><em>Rumour: <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/z\/zuckeja01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jason Zucker<\/a><\/strong>\u2019s days in the State of Hockey may be numbered. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nicholsonhockey.com\/archives\/2019\/2\/26\/dreger-on-failed-flames-wild-trade\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">TSN\u2019s Darren Dreger<\/a> reported that Zucker was close to going to the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/flames\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Calgary Flames<\/a> in return for <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/f\/frolimi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Michael Frolik<\/a>.<\/strong> The Athletic\u2019s Michael Russo said <a href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/841221\/2019\/02\/27\/jason-zucker-trade-deadline-calgary-flames-wild-jets-kevin-fiala-brad-hunt\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the deal fell through<\/a> because Frolik vetoed the deal.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Analysis: Zucker was re-signed in the last off-season by new general manager <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/f\/fentopa01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Paul Fenton<\/a>,<\/strong> but the Newport Beach, Calif. has struggled to replicate last year\u2019s 33-goal total.
