But in the tradition of Santa bringing nice kids the best gifts, let&#8217;s do it anyway.<\/p>\n<h4><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/a\/amanni01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-12-23_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nils \u00c5man<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>He&#8217;s up, he&#8217;s down, he&#8217;s up again. His <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsnet.ca\/nhl\/article\/canucks-nils-aman-agree-to-terms-on-two-year-contract\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">two-way deal<\/a> doesn&#8217;t kick in until next season, so some light reading to help while he&#8217;s in transit. Jack Han&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2022\/04\/20\/interview-with-jack-han-on-hockey-tactics-and-chaos\/\" target=\"_self\">Hockey Tactics<\/a> is a great flip-though, especially if he wants to be a defensive specialist.<\/p>\n<h4><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/g\/garlaco01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-12-23_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Conor Garland<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>Just a hint more finish to go with his fantastic underlying numbers. Dropping from a 50-point pace to half that doesn&#8217;t endear you to fans or coaches, but he&#8217;s started to pick up points in the last week.<\/p>\n<h4><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/bluegte01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-12-23_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Teddy Blueger<\/a> &amp; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/j\/joshuda01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-12-23_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dakota Joshua<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>This one&#8217;s a joint gift for two members of the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2023\/12\/11\/vancouver-canucks-best-line\/\" target=\"_self\">Canucks best line<\/a>. That&#8217;s for three ghosts to visit Garland and convince him to spread a bit of his $6 million paycheque to those who are helping him earn it.<\/p>\n<h4><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/boesebr01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-12-23_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brock Boeser<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>Nothing, Absolutely nothing. The normally streaky scorer is performing brilliantly, challenging for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/r\/rossar01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-12-23_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Art Ross<\/a> Trophy early. Nobody touch him, NOBODY CHANGE ANYTHING.<\/p>\n<h4><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/j\/juulsno01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-12-23_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Noah Juulsen<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/schenlu01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-12-23_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Luke Schenn<\/a> Award for any first-round pick who recognizes they need to change their game. He&#8217;s found a home on Vancouver&#8217;s penalty-killing unit.<\/p>\n<h4><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/d\/demkoth01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-12-23_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Thatcher Demko<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>What do you get the guy who has everything? A situation where he&#8217;s not scrambling in the third, but it&#8217;s close enough for him to get an empty net goal.<\/p>\n<h4><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/hronefi01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-12-23_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Filip Hronek<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>Noise-cancelling headphones for the quietest Canucks seems right.<\/p>\n<h4><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/coleia01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-12-23_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ian Cole<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>It&#8217;s impolite to say &#8220;the fountain of youth&#8221; when discussing athletes of a certain age. He&#8217;s only one year younger than Myers, after all. But given how Vancouver needs his physicality&#8230; that.<\/p>\n<h4><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/k\/kuzmean01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-12-23_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Andrei Kuzmenko<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>Slightly reduced expectations after his 39-goal rookie season. He still needs to score, but 25 goals on the top line is really what the Canucks need from him.<\/p>\n<h4><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/hughequ01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-12-23_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Quinn Hughes<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>The Canucks Christmas gift is him, not the other way around. Having other blue-liners taking his time on the penalty kill would be nice, though.<\/p>\n<h4><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/mikheil01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-12-23_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ilya Mikheyev<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>What else? Health. Poor guy hasn&#8217;t managed a full season even once in his five NHL years. Hitting at least 60 games for 2023-24 would be a relief, and 70 a thrill.<\/p>\n<h4><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/l\/laffesa01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-12-23_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sam Lafferty<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>A reaction other than &#8220;Oh, yeah, him!&#8221; when he&#8217;s moved to the first line. His scoring may have slipped a bit off his early pace, but he&#8217;s still been excellent in support of whoever he&#8217;s lined up with.<\/p>\n<h4><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/hoglani01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-12-23_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nils H\u00f6glander<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>A better nickname than &#8220;Hoagie&#8221;. Perhaps if <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/hanseja01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-12-23_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jannik Hansen<\/a> is no longer using Honey Badger, he can bequeath it to a guy who plays much the same style?<\/p>\n<h4><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/p\/petteel01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-12-23_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Elias Pettersson<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>Kuzmenko getting his touch back. Nothing helps contract negotiations like high-scoring wingers!<\/p>\n<h4><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/d\/desmica01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-12-23_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Casey DeSmith<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>Not to be greedy, but how about a couple years security and an excuse to let Art\u016brs \u0160ilovs cook for another season or two?<\/p>\n<h4><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/suterpi01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-12-23_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pius Suter<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>Spa retreat coupons for the rest of the year. Sorry, mate, as long as Blueger is this successful with Joshua and Garland, that&#8217;s his spot now.<\/p>\n<h4><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/millejt01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-12-23_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">J.T. Miller<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>An assistant coach job title. He&#8217;s already doing that on the bench, so let&#8217;s just skip the whole &#8220;retiring&#8221; step and get him an office now.<\/p>\n<h4><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/z\/zadorni01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-12-23_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nikita Zadorov<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>It&#8217;s a hard call for a team with Hughes and Hronek, but a bit of power play time. He scored two extra-man markers as a rookie and none since. They always look nice during contract negotiations.<\/p>\n<h4><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/myersty01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-12-23_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tyler Myers<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>Frankly, Myers already got his gift with Zadorov coming to the team. He&#8217;s been rock-solid as a pairing with Zadorov, and the Russian takes some of the offensive pressure off, too.<\/p>\n<h4><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/d\/digiuph01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-12-23_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Phillip Di Giuseppe<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>Good memories of his time with Miller and Boeser on the Canucks top line. Unless he gets his corner-grinding form back, those days are probably over for him.<\/p>\n<h4><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/f\/friedma01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&amp;utm_campaign=2023-12-23_hr\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mark Friedman<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>He&#8217;s going to spend a lot of time as Vancouver&#8217;s seventh defenceman.
