Grzelcyk was sent back to Boston to undergo more tests despite his X-rays being negative.

So far this season, Grzelcyk has scored two goals and 14 assists for 16 points to go along with 66 minutes in penalties. His possession numbers were 51.4 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of -1.6 percent.

Matt Grzelcyk has spent his entire three-year career with the Bruins. He has five goals and 26 assists for 31 career points in 124 career games. He was originally drafted by the Bruins in the third round, 85th overall in the 2012 NHL Draft.

What This Means for the Future

Grzelcyk had recorded points in his previous two games before being injured on Saturday Night. The Massachusetts native has played well on the Bruins third pairing with John Moore. With Grzelcyk out of the line-up, this puts the Bruins down two defencemen with Kevan Miller also out of the line-up. Miller has not appeared in a game since February 23rd and has recorded six assists in 36 games this season for Boston.

With both guys out of the line-up, the Bruins currently have six healthy defensemen on their roster. Depending on the MRI results the Bruins may be forced to call up an extra D man for insurance moving forward. The Bruins will hope to have Grzelcyk back in the lineup on Thursday in Winnipeg.

The Bruins have recalled forward Trent Frederic from Providence on an emergency basis. Frederic has played in 11 games with Boston this year failing to record a point. In Providence, he has 11 goals and 9 assists for 20 points in 45 games.

Main Photo:

Embed from Getty Images

The Boston Bruins announced that defenceman Matt Grzelcyk will miss tonight’s game vs Columbus Blue Jackets with an upper-body injury.
