He was a pick who at the time had huge implications for the team, coaching staff, and management.

As soon as he hit the ice, he made somewhat of an impact on the roster for the Edmonton Oilers, which fans had never experienced. Since, the eighties. His play was and is still stellar, and he has put up consistently to elite level of numbers. With 638 games played, accumulating 306 goals, and 438 assists, tallying 744 points in eight years is quite an impressive run. Those numbers reflect his regular season performance.

His playoff stats are as follows: with 49 games played, accumulating 31 goals, and 46 assists, tallying 77 points in five years. It is astonishing to witness a game of such stature. Also, his partner in crime is also paving the way.

The Oilers Continue to be Led by McDavid

Along came forward and superstar, Connor McDavid. His reputation and mark on the game have no limit. which says a lot about his character on and off the ice. Not to mention the dent he has put into the game with his record-breaking numbers as of late.

With 569 games played, recording 303 goals and 547 assists, tallying 850 points are numbers unheard of from past generations in the game of hockey. His intellect and more importantly his knowledge, attributed to his hockey IQ is just the stem of his brilliant work to improve on the ice.

It would be hard to compare others to his type of gameplay. He single-handedly can take the puck into the offensive zone with three defenders surrounding the net (in a triangle formation). He uses his speed, along with skill and grit to get past them and score. A talent as such, not many possess in today’s game either. His determination to win a Stanley Cup with the Edmonton Oilers and bring back the glory days is a testament to his dedication. His demeanour towards the game and the fans is incredibly honourable, along with his teammates as mentioned above.

Even though McDavid has only played 49 games in the playoffs. He has recorded 29 goals and 46 assists, tallying 75 points in the postseason. McDavid is poised to break out even harder with his gameplay and combine to record more points with his teammate Draisaitl.

The Oilers’ Dynamic Duo is the Key to Success

This combination of the Dynamic Duo is a recipe that was destined to work out for the Edmonton Oilers team. Especially for the organization and its fans.

These two players are the pinnacle of hockey today and know how to put on a show. They will entertain you with their respective offence and provide ample opportunities for their teammates. Their gameplay and sportsmanship are what make today’s game of hockey fun to watch.

An interesting note to say, but the pair of McDavid and Draisaitl gives the league an intimidating look. When it comes to playing against them, many teams have to play their A-game so to speak. Not to mention that the team behind them will be looking to add to their arsenal and back them in all aspects.

For the Edmonton Oilers, this is the time to put together the best team in the NHL. Deliver the fans the coveted Stanley Cup and help two genuine athletes win the championship. Giving the City of Edmonton the old name they used to go by: City of Champions. Whereas, building a solid team would definitely put the Oilers over the hump and provide ample depth to the team. Even though the team is satisfactory to say the least today.

Draisaitl and McDavid are today’s game crunching athletes the fans look up to and are prime role models of today’s game of hockey in the NHL.

Main Photo: James Guillory-USA TODAY Sports

When the Edmonton Oilers selected third in the 2014 NHL Draft selection.
