The team signed unrestricted free agent <strong>Lee Stempniak<\/strong>\u00a0for the rest of the season. Stempniak had to be placed on waivers\u00a0but cleared on Monday. He has been skating and staying in shape, waiting for an NHL team to give him an opportunity. By signing before the NHL trade deadline, Stempniak is eligible to play in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.<\/p>\n<p>Lee Stempniak was drafted in the fifth round by the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/blues\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">St. Louis Blues<\/a>\u00a0in the 2003 NHL Draft. Since his rookie season in 2005-06, Stempniak has played for 10 different NHL clubs. These include the Blues,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/maple-leafs\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Toronto Maple Leafs<\/a>, the then-<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/coyotes\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Phoenix Coyotes<\/a>, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/flames\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Calgary Flames<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/penguins\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pittsburgh Penguins<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/rangers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New York Rangers<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/jets\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Winnipeg Jets<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/devils\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New Jersey Devils<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/bruins\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Boston Bruins<\/a>\u00a0and the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/nhl-teams\/hurricanes\/\" target=\"_self\">Carolina Hurricanes<\/a>. His longest stint with an NHL club was for four seasons from 2005-06 to 2008-09 with St. Louis.<\/p>\n<p>In his 13 NHL seasons, he has played in 909 NHL games, scored 203 goals and 266 assists for a total of 469 points. His career-high in points was with the St. Louis Blues in 2006-07 with 52. His career high in goals was also with the St. Louis Blues in 2006-07 with 27.<\/p>\n<p>Last season Stempniak had just three goals and six assists for nine points in 37 games played. He has also added four penalty minutes.
