Ennis didn’t return to the game and head coach Mike Babcock announced he suffered a broken ankle and will be out for a while after the game.

In his first season with the Leafs, Ennis has scored seven goals and four assists for 11 points to go along with one minor penalty. His possession numbers were 45.4 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of -5.9 percent.

Over his 10-year NHL career, Ennis has played for the Buffalo Sabres, Minnesota Wild and Toronto Maple Leafs. He has 112 goals and 157 assists for 269 career points in 524 career games. He was originally drafted by the Sabres, 26th overall in the 2008 NHL draft.

What This Means for the Future

Ennis is part of the Leafs fourth line this season. Over the past few seasons, Ennis has had trouble staying healthy. He missed 30 games last season due to a groin injury. With Zach Hyman out for three weeks, a winger will likely be called up from the Toronto Marlies. Trevor Moore or Carl Grundstrom will likely be called up to help out the Leafs on the left side. This spot will more than likely be filled by Moore who currently has 16 goals and 7 assists in 26 games for the Marlies this season, currently on pace for 46 goals.

This could be a problem for the Leafs seeing that they are short on wingers at the moment. Even with them calling up reinforcements from the Marlies, they may be in the market for a bottom-six winger. It will be interesting to see how the Leafs solve their issues on the wing.

Main photo:
Embed from Getty Images

The Toronto Maple Leafs announced that winger Tyler Ennis is out indefinitely after breaking his ankle in tonight’s game.
