{"id":38700,"date":"2018-12-06T23:14:59","date_gmt":"2018-12-07T04:14:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/?p=38700"},"modified":"2018-12-06T23:15:20","modified_gmt":"2018-12-07T04:15:20","slug":"carolina-hurricanes-jordan-stall-suffers-concussion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2018\/12\/06\/carolina-hurricanes-jordan-stall-suffers-concussion\/","title":{"rendered":"Carolina Hurricanes Jordan Staal Suffers Concussion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/hurricanes\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Carolina Hurricanes<\/a> announced that center<strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/staaljo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jordan Staal<\/a><\/strong> is out indefinitely with a concussion.<\/p>\n<h1>Jordan Staal Injured<\/h1>\n<p>Staal left the ice midway through the\u00a0third period of the Canes game on Wednesday\u00a0Night vs<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/sharks\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> San Jose Sharks<\/a> and didn&#8217;t return.<\/p>\n<p>So far this season,\u00a0Staal has scored five goals and six assists for 11 points to go along with 14 minutes in penalties. His possession numbers were 60 percent Corsi\u00a0and a relative Corsi of 3.3 percent.<\/p>\n<p>Over his 12 -year NHL career, Staal has played for the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/penguins\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pittsburgh Penguins<\/a>\u00a0and Carolina Hurricanes. He has 211 goals and 282 assists for 493 career points in 870 career games. He was originally drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins second overall in the 2006 NHL draft.<\/p>\n<h1>What This Means for the Future<\/h1>\n<div class=\"adn ads\">\n<div class=\"gs\">\n<div class=\"\">\n<div id=\":nw\" class=\"ii gt\">\n<div id=\":nv\" class=\"a3s aXjCH \" role=\"gridcell\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">The loss of Staal is huge for the Hurricanes as Staal is their first line center and has exceptional Corsi numbers so far this season. Staal is also a veteran leader and one alternate captains for the Carolina Hurricanes. He brings a physical presence to the Canes top line as he&#8217;s second on the team in hits with 80. In the face-off circle is he over 56 % which leads the Canes. The Canes will have a tough task filling Staal&#8217;s spot while he is out. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/r\/raskvi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Victor Rask<\/a><\/strong> will most likely take Staal&#8217;s spot on the top line. The Hurricanes are currently in sixth in the Metropolitan with a record of 12-11-4.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The Canes have called up forward <strong>Saku Maenalanen<\/strong> from the AHL in case<strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/f\/ferlami01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Micheal Ferland<\/a><\/strong> can&#8217;t play Friday as well. He is also suffering from a concussion. It will be interesting to see how the Canes are able to adjust with these two players out of the line-up.
