Toronto head coach <strong>Mike Babcock<\/strong> informed the media this morning that the American centre would be available.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Auston Matthews will return to the lineup for the Maple Leafs against the Sharks at Scotiabank Arena on Wednesday (7:30 p.m. ET; SN, TVAS, NBCSCA, <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/yFcpGmLbfE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">https:\/\/t.co\/yFcpGmLbfE<\/a>) after missing 14 games with a shoulder injury <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Sp7iMzzC8b\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">https:\/\/t.co\/Sp7iMzzC8b<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; NHL.com (@NHLdotcom) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NHLdotcom\/status\/1067818731282288642?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">November 28, 2018<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<h1>Auston Matthews Returns to the Lineup<\/h1>\n<p>Matthews has been out since suffering a shoulder injury Oct. 27 against the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/jets\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Winnipeg Jets<\/a>. He was injured in the second period of the Leafs\u2019 3-2 win over the Jets. Winnipeg defenceman <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/t\/troubja01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jacob Trouba<\/a><\/strong> delivered a shoulder-to-shoulder check when Matthews was trying to make a move to the net.<\/p>\n<p>The San Ramon, Calif. native has scored 10 goals and handed out six assists for 16 points in 11 games this season. He also has two penalty minutes in 2018-19. His Corsi for is 50.0 while his relative Corsi is -0.6.<\/p>\n<p>He has played only for the Toronto Maple Leafs in his three-year NHL career. Matthews has scored 84 goals and recorded 64 assists for 148 points in 155 career games. Toronto originally drafted him first overall of the 2016 NHL draft.<\/p>\n<p>The injury cost Matthews 14 games. Babcock also stated that Matthews was ready for the normal contact one would expect in a typical NHL game.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Matthews <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsnet.ca\/hockey\/nhl\/maple-leafs-auston-matthews-play-wednesday-vs-sharks\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">is cleared medically<\/a>, says he\u2019s ready to go (and) feels comfortable to take a big hit, so he\u2019s ready to play,&#8221; Babcock said.<\/p>\n<h1>What This Means for the Maple Leafs<\/h1>\n<p>Toronto is glad to have one of its best forwards back in the lineup. The Maple Leafs sit in third in the Atlantic Division behind the surprising <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/sabres\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Buffalo Sabres<\/a> and the<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/lightning\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Tampa Bay Lightning<\/a>. However, Toronto is only two points behind first-place Buffalo.<\/p>\n<p>Matthews did go without a point in the previous four games before his injury.
