Michal Kempny (illness) is day to day. <\/p>\n<p>Haven\u2019t heard officially on Oshie (upper body) yet, but willing to bet he\u2019s day to day.<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Isabelle Khurshudyan (@ikhurshudyan) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ikhurshudyan\/status\/1063149373251452928?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">November 15, 2018<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<h1>Braden Holtby, Michal Kempny Out<\/h1>\n<p>Holtby <a href=\"https:\/\/russianmachineneverbreaks.com\/2018\/11\/14\/capitals-dress-an-emergency-goalie-to-back-up-pheonix-copley-braden-holtby-is-out\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">was a late scratch<\/a> from Wednesday&#8217;s game against the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/jets\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Winnipeg Jets<\/a>. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/copleph01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pheonix Copley<\/a> <\/strong>made his second start in as many nights in the 3-1 loss.<\/p>\n<p>The Lloydminster, Saskatechewan native is 5-5-2 with a 3.24 goals-against-average. Holtby also has a .900 save percentage and one shutout so far in 2018-19.<\/p>\n<p>He&#8217;s played for the Washington Capitals only in his nine-year NHL career. The 2015-16 Vezina Trophy winner is 230-94-37 in 374 career games. Holtby has a 2.44 GAA and .910 save percentage. The Washington Capitals originally drafted him in the fourth round, 93rd overall in the 2008 NHL draft.<\/p>\n<p>Kempny also missed Wednesday&#8217;s matchup of Stanley Cup contenders with an undisclosed illness. Washington head coach <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/r\/reirdto01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Todd Reirden<\/a><\/strong> said that he hopes the Czech defenceman will be available later in the week.<\/p>\n<p>Kempney has two assists for two points to go along with 16 minutes in penalties. His possession numbers were 51.3 percent Corsi\u00a0and a relative Corsi of 3.7.<\/p>\n<p>The 28-year-old has played for the Chicago Blackhawks and the Washington Capitals in his three-year NHL career. He has five goals and 15 assists for 20 career points in 118 career games. Chicago signed Kempny as an undrafted free agent in May 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Washington had to scramble to find a replacement for Holtby as they signed 6-foot-7 Gavin McHale <a href=\"http:\/\/www.espn.com\/nhl\/story\/_\/id\/25279378\/caps-sit-braden-holtby-late-upper-body-injury-sign-6-7-emergency-backup-goalie\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">as an emergency backup<\/a>. He&#8217;s the goaltending coach for the University of Winnipeg&#8217;s women&#8217;s hockey team.<\/p>\n<h2>What This Means for the Future<\/h2>\n<p>It <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/2018\/11\/15\/washington-capitals-evgeny-kuznetsov-injured\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">wasn&#8217;t a good night for the Capitals<\/a> as they lost <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/k\/kuzneev01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Evgeny Kuznetsov<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/o\/oshietj01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">T.J. Oshie<\/a> <\/strong>after hard checks.
