The Tampa Bay Lightning<\/a> got some terrible news on Thursday as starting netminder Andrei Vasilevskiy<\/a><\/strong> will be out indefinitely with a fractured foot. The news was first reported by TSN’s Darren Dreger<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Tough break for the Lightning. No pun intended. Sounds like Andrei Vasilevsky fractured his left foot and will be out for awhile.<\/p>\n

Lightning Goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy Out with Fractured Foot<\/h1>\n

The 24-year-old Vasilevskiy was off to a solid start this season. He holds a record of 9-3-1 with a .927 save percentage and a 2.27 goals-against-average. Last season, Vasilevskiy finished with a record of 44-17-3, posting a goals-against-average of 2.62 and a save percentage of .920. He also finished third in Vezina Trophy voting.<\/p>\n

Vasilevskiy is currently being evaluated by team doctors. An update on his status should come later today.<\/p>\n

Tough Break for the Lightning<\/h2>\n

The news of the Vasilevskiy injury is a tough pill to swallow for the Lightning. They currently sit on top of the Atlantic with a record of 12-5-1. With Vasilevskiy out the Bolts will have to rely on back up goalie Louis Domingue<\/strong><\/a> to take the brunt of the workload. In five starts this season Domingue has a 3-2 record and holds a goals-against-average of 3.43 and a save percentage of .887. With the Atlantic Division being so tight right now, Domingue will need to pick up his play if the Bolts want to keep pace.<\/p>\n

Vasilevskiy has spent his entire five-year NHL career with the Lightning. He has a 94-52-12 record with a 2.58 goals-against-average, .916 save percentage and 13 career shutouts. Vasilevskiy was the Lightning’s first-round pick, 19th overall, in the 2012 NHL Draft.<\/p>\n

Tampa Bay has yet to announce who will be recalled from the Syracuse Crunch to replace Vasilevskiy. We expect it will be Connor Ingram<\/strong>, as he is waiver exempt. Ingram currently holds a record of 2-3 for the Crunch. Ingram has posted a goals-against-average of 3.44 and a save percentage of .890 with one shutout so far this season.<\/p>\n
