Washington Capitals<\/a> forward T.J. Oshie<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>left Wednesday’s game against the Winnipeg Jets<\/a> after being slammed to the ice and landing hard on the back of his head. The team has not released an update on his injury or a timeline for his return. <\/span><\/p>\n

T.J. Oshie Injured<\/span><\/h1>\n

The Capitals forward left the ice in the last minute of the game after being violently slammed down by Jets defenceman Josh Morrissey<\/a><\/strong>. Washington pulled netminder Pheonix Copley<\/a><\/strong>, giving them the extra man on the ice. Oshie possessed the puck in the Jets zone. He was smashed into the boards by Morrissey as he went to the corner. Morrissey proceeded to rip Oshie down by the shoulder, causing him to land hard onto the back of his head and neck. The veteran player was visibly shaken up but slowly got back on his feet. He was unable to contribute much to the continuing play despite remaining on the ice after the hit. Winnipeg ultimately won the contest 3-1. The Department of Player Safety has fined Morrissey for the hit. <\/span><\/p>\n

Washington Hit Hard With Injuries<\/span><\/h2>\n

The Capitals are currently dealing with a string of injuries. Goaltender Braden Holtby<\/a> <\/strong>missed Wednesday’s game with an undisclosed upper-body injury. Defenceman Michal Kempny<\/a> <\/strong>was also absent from the matchup due to illness. Evgeny Kuznetsov<\/a> <\/strong>left the ice in the first period of play after taking a hit to the head from Jets forward Brandon Tanev<\/a><\/strong>. Oshie could be facing a possible concussion, which would leave Washington severely shorthanded.<\/span><\/p>\n

Oshie has suffered four concussions in his career, with the most recent one just last season. He also took a high stick to the face from Olli Maatta<\/a> <\/strong>and a hard head hit by Evgeni Malkin<\/a> <\/strong>during a November seventh game against the Pittsburgh Penguins<\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n
