{"id":3736,"date":"2016-11-29T13:34:56","date_gmt":"2016-11-29T18:34:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/?p=3736"},"modified":"2018-01-17T20:43:56","modified_gmt":"2018-01-18T01:43:56","slug":"2017-canada-world-junior-camp-roster-announced","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2016\/11\/29\/2017-canada-world-junior-camp-roster-announced\/","title":{"rendered":"2017 Canada World Junior Camp Roster Announced"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Hockey Canada<\/strong> announced Tuesday morning the 32 players who have been invited to selection camp for the <strong>2017 World Junior Championship<\/strong>, which will begin December 11 in Blainville, Que.<\/p>\n<h1>2017 Canada World Junior Camp Roster Announced<\/h1>\n<p>The team&#8217;s preliminary list is comprised of three goaltenders, 10 defencemen, and 19 forwards. Nine players come from both the <strong>OHL<\/strong> and <strong>QMJHL<\/strong>, with 12 from the <strong>WHL<\/strong>. Two players, <strong>Tyson Jost<\/strong> and <strong>Dante Fabbro<\/strong>, play college hockey in the <strong>NCAA<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The roster is highlighted by 2015 first-round picks like <strong>Dylan Strome<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Mathew Barzal<\/strong>, as well as highly-touted draft-eligible prospect\u00a0<strong>Nolan Patrick\u00a0<\/strong>of the\u00a0<strong>Brandon Wheat Kings.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Five players on the current selection roster are returning from last year&#8217;s team, with Barzal and Strome joined by\u00a0<strong>Thomas Chabot<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Julien Gauthier<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>Mitchell Stephens<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The selection camp in Quebec will run until December 14. Canada will play a pair of games against a U Sports All-Star team as well as the Czech Republic to assist in the decision-making process, before making final cuts to the roster. They will shave the current list down to 22 players before ramping up preparations for the tournament proper.<\/p>\n<p>The World Junior Championship will take place this year in Toronto and Montreal, with Canada&#8217;s first game on Boxing Day at the Air Canada Centre against Russia.
