{"id":3694,"date":"2016-11-28T18:53:50","date_gmt":"2016-11-28T23:53:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/?p=3694"},"modified":"2016-11-28T19:05:04","modified_gmt":"2016-11-29T00:05:04","slug":"vancouver-canucks-alexander-edler-4-6-weeks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2016\/11\/28\/vancouver-canucks-alexander-edler-4-6-weeks\/","title":{"rendered":"Vancouver Canucks Alexander Edler Out 4-6 Weeks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <strong>Vancouver Canucks<\/strong> announced Monday that defenseman <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/e\/edleral01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Alexander Edler<\/a><\/strong> had suffered a fractured index finger on his left hand. \u00a0Edler was set to undergo surgery on the fractured finger today. \u00a0The injury occurred in the Canucks 3-2 shootout win against the <strong>Colorado Avalanche<\/strong> this past Saturday. \u00a0Edler was sent to the dressing room early in the first period when he blocked a shot from Avalanche forward <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/soderca01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Carl Soderberg<\/a><\/strong>. \u00a0After evaluations this weekend, the Canucks confirmed that it was indeed a fractured finger. The\u00a0timetable for Edler&#8217;s return is expected to\u00a0be approximately four to six weeks.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Defenceman Alex Edler will undergo surgery today for a fractured index finger on his left hand. Fellow blue liner\u00a0<strong>Christopher Tanev<\/strong>, who suffered a lower body injury on November 2nd, still has not returned to skating yet.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Obviously, it changes things,&#8221; coach <strong>Willie Desjardins<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/news\/vancouvers-alex-edler-has-broken-finger\/c-284154702\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> said of being without Edler and Tanev<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a challenge for sure, but guys are going to get an opportunity and they have to use it.&#8221;&#8221;[Edler and Tanev] are our first D pairing and it&#8217;s tough when they are out so a lot of D has to step up,&#8221; said <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/l\/larseph01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Philip Larsen<\/a><\/strong>. \u00a0&#8220;It&#8217;s been a rough couple weeks. I got out of the lineup and wanted to get back in as quick as possible and then when you get sick on top of that it was not the best timing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Expect players such as\u00a0Larsen, as well as <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/huttobe01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ben Hutton<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/stechtr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Troy Stecher<\/a><\/strong>, and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/sbisalu01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Luca Sbisa<\/a><\/strong> to be asked to step up and play more minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Edler, 30, who has played in 21 games for the Canucks this year.
