Frederik Andersen is listed as day-to-day with a knee injury.<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Leafs PR (@LeafsPR) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LeafsPR\/status\/1051943444157878273?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">October 15, 2018<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<h1><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LeafsPR\/status\/1051943444157878273\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Frederik Andersen Injured<\/a><\/h1>\n<p>Andersen skated as usual with the team this morning.\u00a0 The club made him inactive later in the day, but did not comment on the injury.<\/p>\n<p>So far this season, he is 4-1 in five starts with a goals against average of 3.02 and a save percentage of .899.<\/p>\n<p>Over his six-year NHL career Andersen\u00a0has played for the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/ducks\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Anaheim Ducks\u00a0<\/a>and Maple Leafs. He has a goals-against-average of 2.33 and a save percentage of .918 in\u00a0262\u00a0career NHL games. Andersen was originally drafted in the seventh round, 187th overall of the 2010 NHL Draft by the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/hurricanes\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Carolina Hurricanes<\/a>, but went back into the draft after being unable to come to terms with the Hurricanes. The Ducks drafted him two years later in the third round, 87th overall.<\/p>\n<h2>What This Means For The Maple Leafs Goaltending Situation<\/h2>\n<p>After losing <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/mcelhcu01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Curtis McElhinney<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/p\/pickaca01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Calvin Pickard<\/a><\/strong> on waivers, the Maple Leafs lost much of their goaltending depth before the season started this year. Andersen is a workhorse for Toronto, playing 66 games in back to back seasons for them. Losing him for any amount of time could be costly for the Maple Leafs.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/sparkga01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Garret Sparks<\/a><\/strong> is the backup and will start tonight against the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/kings\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Los Angeles Kings<\/a>. Sparks allowed six goals in his only start of the season and has yet to prove he&#8217;s capable at the NHL level. Although he did win the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/bastiba01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Baz Bastien<\/a><a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Aldege_%22Baz%22_Bastien_Memorial_Award\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Memorial Award<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Harry_%22Hap%22_Holmes_Memorial_Award\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Harry &#8220;Hap&#8221; Holmes Memorial Award<\/a>\u00a0for best goaltender statistically and as voted by the media last year while winning a Calder Cup for the AHL&#8217;s Toronto Marlies.<\/p>\n<p>The Maple Leafs called up\u00a024-year-old\u00a0<strong>Eamon McAdam\u00a0<\/strong>to back up Sparks while Andersen is out.
