Including the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/flyers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Philadelphia Flyers<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/blackhawks\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chicago Blackhawks<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/rangers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New York Rangers<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/blues\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">St. Louis Blues<\/a>,<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/canucks\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u00a0Vancouver Canucks<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/bruins\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Boston Bruins<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/panthers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Florida Panthers<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/flames\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Calgary Flames<\/a>. Keenan has four Stanley Cup appearances to his credit. In 1994, he famously coached the New York Rangers to their first Cup win in 54 years. He also coached Canada to back to back Canada Cup wins in 1987 and 1991.<\/p>\n<p>But Keenan is mostly remembered for his grit and determination along with uncompromising\u00a0methods. More recently spending time with the\u00a0<strong>Metallurg Magnitogorsk<\/strong>, then\u00a0<strong>Kunlun Red Star<\/strong> in the KHL. In addition to that role, Keenan\u00a0has become\u00a0instrumental to the development of China&#8217;s International teams.<\/p>\n<p>It has been reported that the Stanley Cup Winning Coach had surgery last week for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cancerresearchuk.org\/about-cancer\/prostate-cancer\/treatment\/radiotherapy\/internal-radiotherapy\/seed-implantation-radiotherapy\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">brachytherapy seed implants<\/a>. A scary thought for anyone. However, it is less invasive and has a shorter recovery time than some treatments. Although\u00a0it is key to note here that not everyone qualifies for this treatment, it\u00a0depends on person to person.<\/p>\n<h2>Keenan Joining The Cause<\/h2>\n<p>In true spirit, the 68-year-old is using this opportunity in a challenging time to raise awareness for others. The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cancer.ca\/en\/cancer-information\/cancer-type\/prostate\/statistics\/?region=on#ixzz5SB6Sy6Tp\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cancer Council statistics<\/a> show that Prostate cancer is the third leading cause of death from cancer in men in Canada.<\/p>\n<p>As stated in the press release, Keenen highlighted the importance of regular checkups.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/keenan-battling-prostate-cancer-1.1180536\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u00a0&#8220;I\u2019m trying to build awareness and combat the stigma that can be associated with prostate cancer,\u201d Keenan said. \u201cI was diagnosed early because of an annual PSA test used to detect this type of cancer in my yearly checkup.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>More recently other respected faces in the hockey world, like<strong> Pierre Mcguire<\/strong> and<strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/o\/olczyed01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ed Olczyk<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0have used their experiences to raise awareness. In 2017 both McGuire (prostate) and Olczyk (colon) announced they had cancer. They along with Keenan are among many that try to educate and emphasise the importance of regular checkups.<\/p>\n<p>No doubt &#8220;Iron Mike&#8221; will be back from this soon.
