New Carolina head coach <strong>Rod Brind\u2019Amour<\/strong> told the media on Sunday that the injury is more serious than first reported on Thursday. The 25-year-old cut tendons in his pinkie and ring fingers.<\/p>\n<p>Rask has only played for the Carolina Hurricanes during his four-year NHL career. He\u2019s scored 62 goals and dished out 95 assists for 157 points in 313 career games. The Leskand, Sweden native was drafted in the second round, 42<sup>nd<\/sup> overall by the Carolina Hurricanes.<\/p>\n<p>He tallied 14 goals and 17 assists for 31 points in 71 games last season. Rask also added 12 penalty minutes. His Corsi for was 51.9 and relative Corsi was -3.6. The 2017-18 campaign was a career-low in points in a full season for Rask.<\/p>\n<h1>What It Means for the Future<\/h1>\n<p>General manage<strong>r <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/w\/waddedo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Don Waddell<\/a><\/strong> will now have to find a way to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbssports.com\/nhl\/news\/hurricanes-victor-rask-has-surgery-on-right-hand-after-cooking-accident-out-indefinitely\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">shore up the team\u2019s thin centre depth<\/a>. The talent level drops up after Rask and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/staaljo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jordan Staal<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Rask was going to figure into the team\u2019s offensive plans despite having a down season in 2017-18. He was going to be needed even more after the Canes shipped<strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/l\/lindhel01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Elias Lindholm<\/a> <\/strong>to the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/nhl-teams\/flames\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Calgary Flames<\/a> in the off-season.<\/p>\n<p>Carolina\u2019s path to returning to the postseason has been made more difficult after the loss of a top forward.
