He has scored 59 goals along with 65 assists for 124 points in 381 career NHL games. He also has two goals and two assists in 30 career Stanley Cup Playoff Games. Chiasson was part of the 2018 Stanley Cup Champion Washington Capitals. Chiasson was originally drafted in the second round, 38th overall by the Dallas Stars in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

Last season he scored nine goals and nine assists for 18 points in 61 games. He also added 26 minutes in penalties. His possession numbers were 44 percent Corsi-For with a relative Corsi of -4.6. He added a goal and an assist in 16 Stanley Cup Playoff games. Chiasson is coming off a one-year, $660,000 dollar deal with the Capitals. He signed this deal in October of 2017.

What This Means for the Future

Chiasson was signed to give added competition to the Oilers training camp. The veteran winger is known for his grit. If he makes the team it is likely to be in a bottom line role, with some time in the press box.

In other Oilers news, Bob McKenzie, reports that restricted free agent Darnell Nurse is not close to a contract with the team. With training camp set to open, expect Nurse to be a holdout at this point. The Oilers currently have seven NHL defensemen under contract.

Probably should have added — and this is true of all RFAs, especially those who end up getting bridge deals after realizing vast gulf on long-term valuation, and that will be Nurse — they almost always get done. Just a matter of timing and how close to season opener. https://t.co/Q3ZyL6u593

— Bob McKenzie (@TSNBobMcKenzie) September 10, 2018

Main Photo: NEWARK, NJ – SEPTEMBER 18: Alex Chiasson #39 of the Washington Capitals skates against the New Jersey Devils during a preseason game at the Prudential Center on September 18, 2017 in Newark, New Jersey.
