We will be following the order of the first round of the NHL draft (as if there were no traded draft picks) and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/2018-top-shelf-prospects\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">you can find all the articles here<\/a>.\u00a0 Since we had an\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/lastwordonhockeyprospects.com\/2017-nhl-entry-draft-headquarters\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">extensive NHL Draft preview<\/a>, we will not be reviewing the players who were drafted in the 2018 draft, as there have been no games since then, and our reports on them will not have changed.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-13542 td-animation-stack-type0-2 td-animation-stack-type0-1\" src=\"http:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2017\/07\/Top-Shelf-Prospects.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"270\" height=\"107\"><em>What we will be doing is linking you to those articles, as well as taking a look at prospects that were acquired before this year\u2019s draft;<\/em> their progress, and their chances of making the 2018-19 roster of the NHL team in question. We will also bring you one sleeper pick \u2013 a player who was either drafted in the 4th-round or later, or was an undrafted free agent signing who we pick as our dark horse to make the NHL. For those wondering, the cut-off for what is or isn\u2019t a prospect is typically about 50 NHL games played (including playoff games) or is 25 years old. These are not hard or fast rules though, and we may make some exceptions depending on the circumstances.<\/p>\n<h1>2018 NHL Organizational Prospect Rankings (20-11)<\/h1>\n<p>After going through the top 10 prospects of every team in the NHL and giving full scouting reports, we will now be ranking each team&#8217;s prospect pools.<\/p>\n<p>Note: If you click on the team name, you will get a link to a full report on that team. \u00a0The snippets here are just a taste of the information available.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/2018\/08\/25\/tsp-2018-nhl-organizational-prospect-rankings-31-21\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">For Teams 31-21, Click Here<\/a>.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2>20.) <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2018\/08\/14\/boston-bruins-prospects\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Boston Bruins<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n<p>Incredibly, the Bruins graduated six prospects last year to their NHL club last year. Despite all the youth, they were still one of the league&#8217;s best teams. They also moved some solid prospects at the trade deadline. The Bruins don&#8217;t have a true blue-chip prospect but the group remains deep. They have a number of players who could be contributors at the NHL level. Forwards\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/d\/donatry01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ryan Donato<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/bjorkan01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Anders Bjork<\/a><\/strong> have already shown a scoring touch. <strong>Jakub Lauko<\/strong>, <strong>Zachary Senyshyn<\/strong>, and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/cehlape01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Peter Cehlarik<\/a> <\/strong>provide wing depth. Meanwhile,\u00a0<strong>Jacob Forsbacka Karlsson<\/strong>, <strong>Jack Studnicka<\/strong>, <strong>Trent Frederic<\/strong>, and <strong>Ryan Fitzgerald<\/strong> are two-way centres. On the blueline, the Bruins have <strong>Urho Vaakanainen<\/strong>, <strong>Jakub Zboril<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Axel Andersson<\/strong>, and <strong>Jeremy Lauzon<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>19.) <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2018\/08\/12\/minnesota-wild-prospects\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Minnesota Wild<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n<p>The Wild&#8217;s top prospect, <strong>Kirill Kaprizov<\/strong>, is playing in the KHL for CSKA Moscow. He has two years left on his current deal. The team hopes that <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/g\/greenjo02.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jordan Greenway<\/a><\/strong> is ready to make the jump to full-time NHLer. He signed after three years of college hockey. They also hope that <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/k\/kuninlu01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Luke Kunin<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>will show more offensive production in his second full pro season. They lead a deep group of forwards.\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/belpelo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Louis Belpedio<\/a><\/strong> and first-round pick <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2018\/06\/12\/filip-johansson-scouting-report\/\" target=\"_self\"><strong>Filip Johansson<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0are the team&#8217;s top defensive prospects, though Johansson was a bit of a reach as a pick. With <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/f\/fentopa01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Paul Fenton<\/a><\/strong> now in charge, expect the Wild to build their defensive depth over the next several drafts.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>18.) <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2018\/07\/24\/tsp-top-arizona-coyotes-prospects\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Arizona Coyotes<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n<p>They Coyotes also graduated a number of prospects in recent years, although without the on-ice team success seen in Boston. Still, one top prospect they have been patient with is <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/stromdy01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dylan Strome<\/a><\/strong>. He tore up the AHL last year and should advance to the NHL this year. Top pick <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2018\/04\/12\/barrett-hayton-scouting-report-2018-nhl-draft\/\" target=\"_self\"><strong>Barrett Hayton<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0was likely a reach at fifth overall but is still a talented centre. They are joined by <strong>Nick Merkley<\/strong> and <strong>Tyler Steenbergen<\/strong> as the Coyotes top forward prospects. On the blueline, Arizona has <strong>Pierre-Oliver Joseph<\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/capobky01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kyle Capobianco<\/a><\/strong>, and <strong>Cam Dineen <\/strong>as the top three members of a very deep group. Their top goalie prospect is <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/h\/hillad01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Adin Hill<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>17.) <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2018\/07\/27\/chicago-blackhawks-prospects\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Chicago Blackhawks<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n<p>The Hawks have really improved their defensive prospect group in recent years. 2017 first-round pick <strong>Henri Jokiharju<\/strong>, second rounder <strong>Ian Mitchell<\/strong> and 2018 first-rounders <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2018\/07\/01\/chicago-blackhawks-sign-adam-boqvist\/\" target=\"_self\"><strong>Adam Boqvist<\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2018\/05\/13\/nicolas-beaudin-scouting-report-2018-nhl-draft\/\" target=\"_self\"><strong>Nicolas Beaudin<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0have started that process. They also have 2016 second-round pick <strong>Chad Krys<\/strong>. NCAA star <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/sikurdy01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dylan Sikura<\/a><\/strong>, and trade acquisition <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/e\/ejdsevi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Victor Ejdsell<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0are ready to help the team up front. <strong>Evan Barratt\u00a0<\/strong>and <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2018\/04\/29\/jake-wise-scouting-report-2018-nhl-draft\/\" target=\"_self\"><strong>Jake Wise<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0will need some development time. If <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/crawfco01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Corey Crawford<\/a><\/strong> is not ready to start the year, the Hawks hope that <strong>Colin Delia<\/strong> can continue his AHL playoff heroics.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>16.) <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2018\/08\/17\/winnipeg-jets-prospects\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Winnipeg Jets<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n<p>Up front,\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/r\/rosloja01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jack Roslovic<\/a><\/strong> is already contributing to the team and should be an even bigger part of the squad this year. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/l\/lemiebr01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brendan Lemieux<\/a><\/strong> could crack the roster in a bottom line role. 2017 first round pick\u00a0<strong>Kristian Vesalainen<\/strong> had a great season in Finland\u00a0but may need another year of development. They are joined by <strong>Mason Appleton<\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2018\/05\/09\/david-gustafsson-scouting-report-2018-nhl-draft\/\" target=\"_self\">David Gustafsson<\/a><\/strong>, <strong>Michael Spacek<\/strong>, and <strong>C.J. Sues<\/strong> as notable forward prospects. The defence features AHL defenceman of the year <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/n\/nikusa01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sami Niku<\/a><\/strong> who should make the jump to the NHL this year. <strong>Logan Stanley<\/strong>, <strong>Dylan Samberg<\/strong>, and <strong>Luke Green<\/strong> are also in the system. The team has a pair of potential goaltenders in\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/comrier01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Eric Comrie<\/a> <\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Mikhail Berdin<\/strong>. Comrie could challenge for the backup role in pre-season.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>15.) <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2018\/08\/08\/los-angeles-kings-prospects\/\" target=\"_self\">Los Angeles Kings<\/a><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>2017 first-round pick <strong>Gabriel Vilardi<\/strong> was out with injury at the start of the OHL season. When he returned, he was a dynamic offensive force. Defenceman <strong>Kale Clague<\/strong> was one of the best defencemen in junior hockey, giving the team a second high-end prospect. Defensive depth comes from <strong>Mikey Anderson<\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/brickda01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Daniel Brickley<\/a><\/strong>. 2018 draftees <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2018\/04\/10\/rasmus-kupari-scouting-report-2018-nhl-draft\/\" target=\"_self\"><strong>Rasmus Kupari<\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2018\/04\/16\/akil-thomas-scouting-report-2018-nhl-draft\/\" target=\"_self\"><strong>Akil Thomas<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0add to the team&#8217;s centre depth, which also includes <strong>Jaret Anderson-Dolan<\/strong>. Goaltender <strong>Cal Peterson<\/strong> had a solid first year as a professional. Overall, there is some good prospects here, but this system lacks depth beyond the surface.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>14.) <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2018\/08\/16\/tampa-bay-lightning-prospects\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Tampa Bay Lightning<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n<p>The Lightning have real depth in their system. Wingers\u00a0<strong>Boris Katchouk<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Taylor Raddysh<\/strong>, and defenseman\u00a0<strong>Cal Foote<\/strong>\u00a0were all key members of Team Canada at the World Juniors. Centre <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/cirelan01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Anthony Cirelli<\/a><\/strong> joined the NHL team late in the year and made some key contributions down the stretch. Wingers <strong>Mathieu Joseph<\/strong> and <strong>Alexander Volkov<\/strong>; centre <strong>Mitchell Stephens<\/strong>; and defenceman <strong>Erik Cernak<\/strong>\u00a0all had solid rookie seasons in Syracuse. <strong>Dominik Masin<\/strong>\u00a0provides depth on the blueline. Goaltender <strong>Connor Ingram<\/strong> also had a good rookie season for the Crunch\u00a0and means that Tampa has at least one quality prospect at every position.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>13.) <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2018\/08\/04\/colorado-avalanche-prospects\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Colorado Avalanche<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n<p>In <strong>Cale Makar<\/strong>, the Avalanche may have an elite offensive defenceman. There are some concerns about his defensive game though. He will spend another season in the NCAA. <strong>Conor Timmins<\/strong> is on his way to the AHL. He has a good offensive game as well, not as good as Makar, but he is also more well-rounded. The Avs also have <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonhockey.com\/2018\/08\/25\/tsp-2018-nhl-organizational-prospect-rankings-31-21\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nicolas Meloche<\/a>, as three of their top four\u00a0prospects are blueliners. Avs first round pick <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2018\/05\/02\/martin-kaut-scouting-report-2018-nhl-draft\/\" target=\"_self\"><strong>Martin Kaut<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0shot up draft boards. He is a two-way winger who is probably a couple years away. The Avs have some depth down the middle in <strong>Shane Bowers<\/strong>, <strong>Igor Shvyryov<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/k\/kamenvl01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Vladislav Kamenev<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>12.) <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2018\/07\/23\/ottawa-senators-prospects\/\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Ottawa Senators<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2018\/04\/05\/brady-tkachuk-scouting-report-2018-nhl-draft\/\" target=\"_self\"><strong>Brady Tkachuk<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0was one of the most controversial prospects in this year&#8217;s draft. We had him just outside the top 10 in our rankings. There are questions about his ultimate offensive upside. After a disappointing 2016-17, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/brownlo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Logan Brown<\/a><\/strong> bounced back with a strong 2017-18. Forwards\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=whiteco01,whiteco02&amp;search=Colin+White&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Colin White<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/chlapfi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Filip Chlapik<\/a><\/strong> have had NHL opportunities. They both look to win full-time jobs in training camp. World junior sensation\u00a0<strong>Drake Batherson\u00a0<\/strong>was a breakout star in the QMJHL last year. Winger\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/f\/formeal01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Alex Formenton<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0impressed in last year&#8217;s training camp. He was eventually sent back to London. He should have one more year in the OHL. Swedish netminder\u00a0<strong>Filip Gustavsson<\/strong> was acquired in the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/b\/brassde01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Derick Brassard<\/a><\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/hockey\/2018\/02\/23\/derick-brassard-traded-ottawa-senators\/\" target=\"_self\">trade<\/a>. He is the Sens top goalie prospect. The team was weak on the blueline\u00a0but addressed that at the draft table.
