More later on <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ldDBa42X8a\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">https:\/\/t.co\/ldDBa42X8a<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/AR02xcYy0K\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pic.twitter.com\/AR02xcYy0K<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; IIHF (@IIHFHockey) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/IIHFHockey\/status\/795244255136645120?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">November 6, 2016<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<h2>Former Colorado Avalanche Winger Marek Svatos has Passed Away<\/h2>\n<p>Avalanche general manager and executive vice-president <strong>Joe Sakic<\/strong> said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/avalanche\/news\/statement-on-marek-svatos\/c-283476882\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">statement today<\/a> that \u00a0&#8220;The entire Avalanche organization is extremely saddened by the news. Marek was a tremendous person, a talented hockey player and a great teammate. Our thoughts, prayers and our deepest sympathy to his wife, children and his entire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/avalanche\/news\/statement-on-marek-svatos\/c-283476882\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">family&#8221;<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The 34-year-old from <strong>Kosice, Slovakia<\/strong> spent<a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockeydb.com\/ihdb\/stats\/pdisplay.php?pid=55379\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> six NHL seasons<\/a> with the Avalanche. His most productive campaign came in 2005-2006 when he put up 50 points in 61 games. That Avalanche team that would go on to lose the conference semi-finals to the <strong>Anaheim Ducks<\/strong>. Svatos was drafted by the Avalanche in the seventh round of the <strong>2001 NHL Entry Draft<\/strong>. He\u00a0spent his first six NHL seasons with the team before spending time with both the <strong>Nashville Predators<\/strong> and the <strong>Ottawa Senators<\/strong> during the 2010-11 season.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/widgets.eliteprospects.com\/player.php?player=8604#awards\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Svatos<\/a> represented Slovakia at the Under 18, World Junior, World Championship, and Olympic level. His junior career also included a Memorial Cup championship with the Kootenay Ice in 2002. Among frequent day-to-day injuries, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sportsforecaster.com\/nhl\/player\/2398\/trans\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">major injuries<\/a> such as concussions, a torn ACL, back injuries, a broken finger, and knee surgery held back a very promising career for the speedy winger.<\/p>\n<h3>Tributes<\/h3>\n<p>Multiple NHL players including former teammate <strong>Matt Duchene<\/strong>, have taken to twitter to express their sadness and support the Svatos family.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Thinking and praying for the Svatos family<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Matt Duchene (@Matt9Duchene) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Matt9Duchene\/status\/795293376270794752?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">November 6, 2016<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><strong>Ottawa Senators<\/strong> goaltender <strong>Craig Anderson<\/strong>, who&#8217;s wife Nicholle was recently diagnosed with cancer said that he was &#8220;very sad to hear about the passing of Marek Svatos. He was a great guy and tremendous player &#8211; he will be missed by many&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Our thoughts and prayers go out out to the Svatos family during this difficult time.
