Those players that, despite their absolute domination of <i>your team<\/i>, you can\u2019t help but respect them. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/o\/ovechal01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Alex Ovechkin<\/a><\/strong>, in leading the Washington Capitals to the 2018 Stanley Cup, has cemented his spot on that list for just about every fan in the NHL. For a long time, Ovechkin was considered the best player in the NHL who didn\u2019t have a championship. The whispers weren\u2019t whispers, so much as blatantly spoken:<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<i>Yeah, <\/i><i>he\u2019s\u00a0<\/i><i>great, but he <\/i><i>can\u2019t\u00a0<\/i><i>win a Cup<\/i><i>.<\/i><i>\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n<div>\n<div><i>\u201c<\/i><i>I\u2019d\u00a0<\/i><i>love to <\/i><i>have <\/i><i>him on my team, but he chokes in <\/i><i>the playoffs<\/i><i>.\u201d<\/i><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><i>\u201c<\/i><i>Can\u2019t\u00a0<\/i><i>get <\/i><i>past the second <\/i><i>round<\/i><i>.\u201d<\/i><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>And other things of that nature. But in winning the Conn Smythe as playoff MVP, the Great Eight has put those talks to bed, for good. Ovi now rests on a similar level as his longtime rival, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/crosbsi01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sidney Crosby<\/a><\/strong>.
