The Toronto Maple Leafs<\/a> re-signed restricted free agent goaltender Calvin Pickard<\/a><\/b> to a one-year contract worth $800,000. Pickard will be a restricted free agent again next summer. The club made the announcement via their official PR twitter account.<\/p>\n

Toronto Maple Leafs Re-Sign Goaltender Calvin Pickard<\/h1>\n

Over his four-year NHL career, Pickard has played for the Colorado Avalanche<\/a> and the Toronto Maple Leafs<\/a>. He has put up a career 0.913 save percentage, 2.78 goals-against-average and has 28-44-7 record in 87 career games. He was originally drafted in the second round, 49th overall of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft by the Colorado Avalanche.<\/p>\n

Last season, he played just one game in the NHL and posted an 0.857\u00a0save percentage, but posted a 0.918 save percentage in the AHL with the Calder Cup Champion Toronto Marlies, playing behind the league’s top goaltender Garret Sparks<\/a><\/b>. He had a 21-9-1 record with the Marlies in 33 games. <\/span><\/p>\n

What This Means for the Future<\/h2>\n

Pickard is still a young goalie that has played a large number of games at the NHL level when he played 50 games with Colorado in the 2016-17 season. He has proven he can also win at the AHL level and can be predicted to be a steady goalie in the NHL again in a\u00a0limited number of games. Expect to see Pickard back with the Marlies next season. He provides insurance for the Leafs in the event that they suffer injuries in net.<\/p>\n
