It\u2019s the time of the year where we take a look at some NHL off-season rumours. This will encompass any trades or talked-about signings before July 1. We take a look at what it will take to get Jeff Skinner<\/a> <\/strong>from the Carolina Hurricanes<\/a> and Ryan O’Reilly<\/a> <\/strong>from the Buffalo Sabres<\/a>. We also take a look at who may give Washington Capitals<\/a> goalie Philipp Grubauer<\/a><\/strong> a look.<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s get started.<\/p>\n

Jeff Skinner<\/a><\/h2>\n

Rumour: The Athletic<\/em>\u2019s Pierre LeBrun reports that Carolina wants a first-round pick<\/a> in exchange for the 2010-11 Calder Trophy-winner.<\/p>\n

The Hurricanes are looking for ways to snap the sport\u2019s longest playoff drought. Skinner\u2019s name has been tossed around in trade rumours for the last couple of seasons. The 26-year-old Markham, Ontario native is a three-time 30-goal scorer and would be a welcome addition to any team.<\/p>\n

He still has one year left on his deal before he becomes an unrestricted free agent. A team would like him for more than just a rental and look to lock him up after July 1st.<\/p>\n

Ryan O\u2019Reilly<\/h2>\n

Rumour:<\/em> TSN\u2019s Darren Dreger speculated that Sabres general manager Jason Botterill<\/a> <\/strong>is going to ask for a lot before he\u2019ll deal O\u2019Reilly.<\/p>\n

Dreger went on to say that Botterill would need a young player or prospect, a high pick and possibly more. The high asking price makes sense because O\u2019Reilly has been the main offensive option for Buffalo. The Sabres have been stuck in rebuild mode and need a lot of pieces to climb the Atlantic Division ladder.<\/p>\n

A Skinner trade is more likely to happen than an O\u2019Reilly one.<\/p>\n

Phillipp Grubauer<\/h2>\n

Rumour:<\/em> Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic said that the Hurricanes and the New York Islanders<\/a> are interested in Washington\u2019s backup goalie<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Grubauer played in 35 games this season and went 15-10-3 with a 2.35 goals against average and a .923 save percentage. He even started the first two playoff games of the Capitals playoff run before Braden Holtby<\/a><\/strong> took over in net.<\/p>\n

Washington is up against the salary cap and does need money to try to sign John Carlson<\/a> <\/strong>and Michal Kempny<\/a> <\/strong>in off-season. Carolina and New York were towards the bottom of the league in goals against last season. Both teams are desperately seeking an upgrade and Grubauer would fill that need.<\/p>\n
