He has scored 146 career goals and 267 career assists for 413 career points in 1003 career games. Stajan has also added a goal and three assists for four points in 17 career Stanley Cup Playoff games. His best year was during the 2009-10 season when he scored 19 goals and 38 assists for 56 points in 82 games split between the Leafs and Flames. He was originally drafted in the second round, 57th overall in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft by the Maple Leafs.

Last season, he scored four goals and eight assists for 12 points in 68 games. He also added 28 minutes in penalties. His possession numbers were 51.6 percent Corsi-For with a relative Corsi of -2.1. Stajan is coming off a four year, $12.5 million dollar contract with an AAV of $3.125 million. He signed this contract back in January 2014 with the Flames.

What This Means for the Future

Stajan will bring his experience to Munich. In his career, he is 49.7 percent on face-offs. Late in his career, Stajan will expected to be a scorer and be a key player as a top centre in a weaker league, on a team who is looking for leadership down the middle. Not known for his offensive power in the NHL, expect Stajan to put up a lot of points in Germany as well as do the little things on defence for his new club. Stajan was also part of the deal that brought Dion Phaneuf to Toronto.

Main Photo:

NEW YORK, NY – FEBRUARY 09: Matt Stajan #18 celebrates after a goal by Matthew Tkachuk of the Calgary Flames in the second period against the New York Rangers during their game at Madison Square Garden on February 9, 2018 in New York City.
